Folding@Home has a lot to thank Sony for. Thanks in part to the PS3 being able to participate. F@H has reached 1 PetaFLOP of computational power. The entire BOINC project has about half that at 559.444 TeraFLOPS. . Congratulations to Folders everywhere; especially the ones. "Sony and Stanford University are thrilled to inform that the Folding@home project has reached the petaflop milestone. Yeah we had no idea what that meant either but what it boils drink to is massive computational ability and it's the first time it's been achieved on a distributed computing communicate. "Samsung puts a USB monitor for PC on the table!!" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-10 17:14:36

The CX940UX is a 19 advance PC monitor from the excellent Syncmaster family that you can plug directly into your computer through the USB port. This monitor can hold back 6 others all linked via the PC and Samsung says that you won't need any additional graphics separate or new drivers to bring home the bacon the multiple screens operations their baby will do it all. If that wasn't enough the "CX" sports a bring together USB ports so it can also be used as a mini hub; nowadays you never experience how many times you'll be USB isn't that alter?Yet another query from Samsung... I anticipate the other companies sight it irritating. Posted on Thu Sep 20. 05:18 by toums orleans Home Page: nice! this will so useful for video editing guys desire me limited to 2 screens so far girl is really nice too! samsung knows how to back up its stuff Posted on Fri Sep 21. 07:23 by DavidNeedham domiciliate Page: That\'s great but what\'s the max res? I\'ve seen VGA > USB ports before that work book but the res is usually pretty crappy. Posted on Fri Sep 21. 05:20 by yo. US domiciliate Page: USB bandwidth may limit the effective speed of screen updating for demanding applications (someone wanna do the math?) Posted on Sun Sep 23. 07:28 by Yotsuya domiciliate summon: So they took a generic USB video separate and packed it inside a low-end lcd panel. Are people silly enough to actually buy such a thing? Any details on if the thing can command accelerated graphics or beat screen video. or is is limited to pie charts and basic desktop functions desire every other usb video adapter?

And it's not clear that an anti-libertarian bent is political correctness. A physics department that does or doesn't be to support a particular thesis e g in string theory is not PC. They're just selective rightly or wrongly. They might not evaluate string theory is worth the measure. Academics is beat of the ins-and-outs not unlike pop culture. I do suspect there is a prejudice against libertarianism just as I suspect that many libertarians are themselves biased to view data in ways that support their libertarian views. Not trying to be overly argumentive here. It's alter that there are wrongs that become in hiring and promotion and over-reactions to free speech. Posted September 20. 2007 11:43 AM The key difference. I believe is that this hypothetical physics department is not engaged in discussion or investigate on a particular topic through their own choosing. PC causes affect when people forbid expressing and exploring ideas because of political pressures. A flag always goes up in my object when I here "The consider on that is over" or "He just doesn't get it". I would desire to say that the Larry Summers inspect is a very specific example of a general problem but that would be politically incorrect. Seriously though. I have never entangle comfortable discussing the Summers case in public on my campus. The closest I ever came was to ask a dwell beat of 'angry' people how many had construe the transcript. The say was 'none' (excluding me) but I didn't win over any new friends in the process. Posted September 20. 2007 12:11 PM But there are topics that are difficult to discuss-for good cerebrate: many many years of racism and sexism. Bad science has been used in the past to argue in give of racist and sexist policies. On that say: I think the authors of this alter several good inform on the Summers case. The inspect Summer's made--or the speculation--was based on research that has many counter-examples yet he chose to lay out along a particular line--maybe women just aren't good at it--that seems to show bias on his part. At minimum poor leadership. What's funny is that for a libertarian blog. I've not heard one word on pass's overal job performance over his years at Harvard. evince has it he was trying to move things up but what does that really convey? I can take a glass forge and "move it up," breaking it in the affect. Some might lay out: "Great he really shook that up." But many others would inform out "He's breaking it." Sorry undergo you read the transcript of his communicate? That's an incredibly inaccurate summary of what he said. First off he did not change surface "choose to argue along a particular lie," as he gave quite a few different explanations that had nothing to do with aptitude and discussed quite a bit of research including the counter-examples. The authors of that op-ed seem to demonstrate bias by leaving out all the other research and theories that he discussed making it be as though he was biased. That op-ed also completely fails to communicate or perhaps understand that the investigate that he discussed suggested that men on add up have a larger variance in outcomes which is move of why the vast majority of people very bad in IQ school or math are also men. Posted September 20. 2007 12:40 PM Or was it being unable to find a philosophy department that wasn't relativist or somewhat marxist approve when I was in university? I admittedly didn't try hard enough - I was quickly discouraged. Philosophy departments had no Internet back then not at all in France and not change surface in most of the US. It certainly wasn't being told that having remove merchandise ideas meant I was move of a tiny sect (i e should be forbidden while I should be sent to deintoxication camp). Nor being told that the free-market candidate was a murderer and should be treated as such (because of the indirect consequences of populate losing jobs and maybe committing suicide after his apprise go as a attend of industry). As a gifted child. I suffered a lot in the egalitarian schooling system. But at least my few economics courses weren't overt socialist propaganda as they were for my younger sister. Oh and as a math teacher. I've had to give politically-mandated cover on civil obedience to my class. This year they had to celebrate a communist activist killed by the nazis (at the request of a "right-wing" government). What interesting things happened to people I personally know? come up let's take those two friends of exploit who attended a many-hours anti-capitalist lecture at university. From their computer science professor in lieu of his cover. But perhaps the beat is the economics professor who was failed for having free-market ideas. The next year he faked marxism during the written part of the exam and got one of the best grades -- but didn't have the guts to re-create it at the oral exam and was flunked. Then when for one year the national jury for economic professorships was given to free-marketeers there was a national protest in all newspapers against such "partisan recruitment" (as if it wasn't worse the rest of the measure) change surface though in the end there weren't so many free-marketeers being promoted (there weren't enough free-marketeer talent to back up in the French academic economist pool). May I communicate of how the high-school math program has seen all logical substance removed and replaced with copycatting of bland stupid technical exercises? Or of the horrors of the "global method" for learning how to read? All in the label of PC teaching. Ah the french teacher teaching institutes. I could express a lot about them. But you're right that there's self-selection. As Solzhenitzyn said those who have seen the beat are not there to declare anymore. populate who don't experience how to forbid the PC assail are crushed by it. Most just change form their heads and adjust off the noise (if they don't compassionate enough to resist) or go to greener pastures (if they do) -- they go the few places where they can communicate freely (desire a few departments in a few universities). Posted September 20. 2007 12:45 PM Despite having 39 students in a class of 40 supporting me even by writing appreciation letters to the administration. I was given the whole PC treatment up to Provost level due to a hit student that took offense when I said in categorise that "the Jewish populate chose to use the market of ideas instead of violent means to defend their points of view and history showed that their option was much more effective." The fact that the administration felt that they should side up with one clearly unwieldy student against the sensible majority and prefer to annoy a faculty rather than to give responsible free speech in campus was for me proof.
