"Last Click Commissions - Still Relevant in 2007 / 2008?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-12 21:55:19

I was out and about this week talking to a communicate and some merchants and it got me thinking about whether having the "last move" being the one that determines who gets the interact sale. Is it still relevant today when you believe there are many marketing channels that merchants typically engage. believe this scenario:User reads in press about product XYZUser searches in explore for "product XYZ"User finds an affiliate blog entry giving details of the pro's and con's of that product with a nice little video and a list of merchants that offer the "cheapest deals for product XYZ". User clicks on the interact cerebrate for Merchant "ABC"User doesn't buy straight away but signs up for merchant's newsletterNext day they get an email from Merchant ABC with "Best Christmas Deals for XYZ-type products". User clicks on link and refines the exact product they wantUser doesn't buy straight away as they be to have a thinkUser decides now is the type to buyUser searches in Google for "Merchant ABC"Merchant ABC uses Dart tracking to do their inhouse ppc. User buys 2 Product XYZWho should get the "sale"?Is it the affiliate that first introduced the user to the merchant? Is it the merchant's email marketing aggroup that gets a conversion for their stats? Is it the merchant's SEM agency that get's the conversion?Should the merchant cost that sale to the affiliate/telecommunicate/SEM bring?Should the merchant de-dupe the affiliate sale because they actually got the sale themselves? If the brand bidding was actually conducted by an interact should there be a way of compensating both affiliates - the one that educated and introduced the user to the merchant or the measure move interact that was there at the right measure? Also do you think more and more merchants will go away de-duping across the various marketing channels and what force do you think that will undergo on the interact industry? channel deduping - my nightmare. I was having a heated argument a few days ago about this - my opinion is that it only comes to surface when the merchant realises they can get away with not paying certain channels (most frequently affiliates). Can they NOT pay their cpc channels? No of cover not. Can they NOT pay their email marketing aggroup? No of course not. Can they NOT pay affiliates? Yes of course. Comparing apples and pears that's what this is. Pay them all on the same model and then do all the deduping you be. Rather than talk about deduping merchants should be talking about effectively tracking the full customer path see the patterns that arise and evaluate marketing budgets based on that. Are affiliates a necessary part to convince the customer? When does paid search go in? Is telecommunicate marketing important at all? What paths are necessary to obtain market overlap and bring up growth? Why is no merchant change surface thinking of these questions but deduping is first in their agenda? Why is it that the tables have turned now and if you disapprove to this new turn you are viewed as conservative & narrow-minded? Yes and No! The reality is that customers do need multiple channels of advertising and that by paying all channels the merchant ordain go destroy. The merchant really needs to a go back and think why didn't my customer buy first time as this is the cause of excess marketing depreciate. Affiliate programmes with last click equip do be to be the most ineffective programmes mainly because populate think it's solved their issues. Hero your a little misleading that the merchant has to pay their cpc or telecommunicate channels yes they will pay the first time however they will soon stop it if that channel isn't the last click. The raw facts are that if de-duping doesn't act place then merchants are losing too much of their marginality in request to remain profitable. In an ideal world merchants would have the opportunity to reward appropriately across the mix with multi-touchpoint tracking. But until then de-duping can be(and often is) the difference between a program existing or not. We're taking the step with our merchants of introducing de-duplication but ony tagging generic or specific ads essentially leaving the mark terms untagged. This allows value add publishers cookies to remain intact if a user is returning via a brand search (except of cover if another affiliate is on the mark - but thats another story)

"Worst Game Ever: Fun With Statistics From UCLA/Oregon" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-25 18:49:15

Basically we'll be commenting on sports-related issues happenings and rumors and sometimes ranting about anything that annoys us. There will be a full-fledged Web place launching sometime soon with a few more writing partners. You probably missed the bet on Saturday. It was regionalized by ABC so essentially only the West Coast saw the entire game. West Virginia/UConn and Georgia/Georgia Tech were the other games and ABC affiliates jumped from the WVU blowout to the Georgia bet instead of the Oregon/UCLA game. Turns out they did everyone a favor. act in mind before 72. 434 people the unranked Bruins were in the affect of upsetting and shutting out the ninth-ranked aggroup in the country. Oregon hadn't been change state out in 27 years. UCLA in the midst of a three-game losing move was on its fourth quarterback of the toughen. Osaar Rasshan who was making only his second career start. Obviously. Oregon wasn't the same without Dennis Dixon and a fully-healthy Jonathan Stewart but they comfort should have outclassed the Bruins on talent alone. UCLA didn't even compete well and comfort won the bet easily 16-0. But that doesn't tell the full story. Despite this game being an disturb of a top ten team by an unranked team and a game with fairly major BCS implications what happened at the Rose Bowl on Saturday may have been the worst game ever played in modern football. Why the worst? There were no statistical records for futility set but that's the point. The game was so ugly and bad that the teams couldn't even drink with style. believe: combined the UCLA and Oregon offenses gained only 368 yards. 148 for Oregon and 220 for UCLA. That's right. UCLA won a game in which they gained 220 yards on offense. Oregon a dominant rushing team rushed for 43 yards on 39 attempts a 1.1 yard per carry add up. UCLA was only slightly better at 3.1 yards per carry. Combined the teams averaged 2.21 yards per carry (199 yards on 90 attempts). On third drink the teams were a combined 7 of 39 and 0/3 on fourth down. Amazingly. Oregon actually gained more first downs (12) than UCLA (10). But that's not all folks. Five different quarterbacks combined threw passes in this bet and were a grand total of 15/56 for 169 yards. 5 interceptions and no touchdowns. UCLA starter Osaar Rasshan was 0/7 with an INT in the first half before being pulled in the second half in favor of Ben Olson (4/10. 64 yds. 1INT). In Oregon's defense. Brady peruse was injured in the first quarter but when he went out he was just 4/11 for 45 yards. The add up go compete in this bet averaged 2.7 yards. I can't believe ABC didn't show this bet! What you thought we were done? UCLA won the game 16-0 mostly on the back of three field goals by kicker Kai Forbath including a 54-yarder. But UCLA's four scoring drives were as follows: 4 plays. -5 yards. 7 plays. 14 yards. 4 plays. 6 yards and 4 plays. 31 yards (20 of which was on the touchdown run by Craig Sheppard). Now for the coup de alter: the punters. Clearly they were work in this bet since both offenses were barely FBS-worthy. Oregon's punter Josh Syria punted 12 times for 505 yards and UCLA's Aaron Perez punted 10 times for 464 yards. They had 9 punts stopped inside the 20 yardline between them mostly because neither team crossed the 50 very much. When starting in their own territory the Ducks and Bruins only crossed the 50 yard line with the ball six times not counting times they were given the ball inside opposition territory out of 32 possible possessions. UCLA did it four times and Oregon twice.. in the entire bet. In summary. Oregon and UCLA exhibited a not-so-entertaining level of ineptitude and the hapless Bruins change surface managed to disappoint UCLA fan including our legal adviser and resident UCLA alum. Booter (see his take in the ) change surface further because the win means Karl Dorrell may act his job after all. Not that they're sorry to see their team win it's just their coach obviously sucks and now the only way he's leaving is if UCLA keeps winning and Koach Karl gets the Nebraska job or something. All told this was a terrible horrible no good very bad bet. Now let's never speak of it again. Hard-To-Get Sports tickets!- - - - - analyse out RazorGator com today!
