License clickthrough recording

 <modified>2008-02-29T20:11+00:00

Recording is really the evince I was looking for but I can’t evaluate of a better one yet. What I’m wondering here is why recording/storing the act of a clickthrough license acceptance isn’t something built in to Windows or OSX (on Linux I anticipate I can understand why as the grow likely wouldn’t accept it).
Most software gets installed in Windows or OSX via some standard installation mechanisms. “Installing” in OSX might be somewhat a misnomer as I believe it’s often just copied without any ‘registration’ of the affect with a central registry ala Windows. So perhaps this idea would only work in the Windows ecosystem.
The main idea is to log the text of whatever ‘click through’ license was accepted during the installation of each program. That would need to be some sort of OS-level call that installers could call and I anticipate there would be to be a certain aim of trust that the license shown the user is also the same one stored in the registry.
My thinking here is that it would address the issue of people in companies installing random applications. This would give the part-time sysadmin the ability to audit not just the apps installed but also the terms the user agreed to and theoretically move the company to. Completely locking populate’s machines down is an option as come up but depending on the situation and resources isn’t really a good option. For larger companies the Software Update Server is used to push out new software to people’s desktops so presumably the syadmins in those cases have reviewed the licenses and understand them and keep a record of them.

Annoying ad traits revealed

 <modified>2007-12-21T06:53+00:00

The top ten most annoying things about online advertising campaigns have been listed by PC World com - which internet marketers may be interested to hear. The website listed a be of things that are more likely to turn off prospective customers than convert advertising into sales. Advertisements (ads) that were noisy were highlighted first as the magazine claimed that often consumers can feel as if their PCs audio has been hijacked. Floating ads with difficult to locate close buttons expanding ads that takeover the page and malware infected ads were also targeted as the site laid out a number of things that those looking to start an online campaign may wish to avoid. However it was noted that although theses ads can sometimes be frustrating consumers should remember that in their absence it would be unlikely that web content would be free."Without them we'd all have to pay a nickel every time we wanted to watch a YouTube video of people riding down escalators in shopping carts," the article stated.
