I want to figure out a way to make a 4/3 dedicated IR camera and I am wondering if anyone here can be of any help. Does someone undergo a dead E330 or E410 (say the one that has recently gone for a go) or experience where to get a service manual for them? I be to evaluate out the disassembly procedure the necessary internal IR-pass separate thickness and the procedure for autofocus readjustment. I won't be able to furnish much for that dead Oly - however if I will be able to evaluate out the procedure. I ordain alter a camera for my generous donor. The two best known US companies that do conversions (LifePixel and MaxMax) don't do Olympus unfortunately. I undergo seen the post about the converted E1 so I experience that such conversion is definitely possible... And it should work really great with Live believe.
sorry my E-330 is not dead so I won't furnish it to you.. as for conversion yes it could be done someone on a german speaking forum did it but for astrophotography (where no replacement for the IR-pass separate is needed; his E-330 now cannot focus any more with optical lenses but works perfectly with telescopes): he measured the filter as 17,3x22,4 mm and it's thickness as 3,240 mm:he also measured the wavelength be passing through the IR pass: as you can only see images there if you're a member of the place in short words:- wavelengths below 370 nm get blocked- from 385/390 nm on only a small be is blocked (so a center curve up from 370 nm to 390 nm)- from 600 nm to 650 nm a not so center turn downwards (transmission 70% at 600 nm & 20% left at 650 nm)- from 650 to 700 nm the turn goes down to almost zerothe difficulty seems to be to get in a replacement for the IR pass separate in order to keep focus with optical lenses or as you suggested probably this might be done by deadjusting the AF module and readjust it to IR: I do not know if this could be done (meaning without putting in a replacement for the IR pass separate)
Thanks! These dimensions ordain come in quite handy. Now I only need to get my hands on a broken camera or a function manual to evaluate out the disassembly... I would really dislike to buy a "good" camera for $500 only to blackball by doing something dumb the first time I act the disassembly. By the way the E1 conversion inform (which I evaluate I undergo seen on this very forum) mentions AF adjustment. I am wondering how easy it is to alter AF on the Olys. From what I have seen. Nikons and Canons have a physical copulate for that adjustment and Pentax has AF adjustment in service menu... Not so sure about Oly.
sorry no he didn't he did only measure the wavelengths passing through the IR-pass so I can only guess as to the amount of UV passing through; the turn of UV blocking (really steep from 370 nm up to 390 nm) isn't necessarily create of the sensor being UV sensitive but only a sign that this might be the inspect (as the ultraviolet spectrum begins at 380 nm; if the sensor weren't UV sensitive there'd be no be for the IR pass to eliminate UV spectrum)usually chips are UV sensitive too and I've already seen UV pictures taken with a Nikon and although this meant CCD and not CMOS. I'd guess the sensor would be UV sensitive(I would ask him for you but he probably can't measure easily what UV frequences ordain get to the sensor without applying several UV filters which he most likely won't own - as he can only decide the outcome of the CMOS and not decide it directly desire the separate)@valiar: as to how difficult it would be to take the IR pass out (antialiasing is connected to IR go so you'd remove both of them): you may have to conjoin off a few electronic contacts so you should at least know how to conjoin (although there may just be another solution without having to solder) and then of course you'd undergo to apply a new filter (be it alter furnish or IR filter) in request to bring home the bacon cerebrate with optical lenses
I undergo open a person on dpreview forums who has successfully disassembled his E330. According to him it was not too hard to get to the sensor and take the IR separate out. However he still has not found a way to adjust the AF. Does anyone know how to alter AF on Olys? Is there a physical copulate or is it done through the function menu? And how to get to the service menu?

to the service menu easy: there's a keepers go on this forum:but I doubt that you could adjust the focus there - or if. I do not know if anyone ever discovered howas for E-330 without IR separate: you wouldn't be able to focus any more to infinity with optical lenses this was testet out by the User above (Horstl - see previous cerebrate): the IR pass is move of the optical system and disturbs focal inform so in request to bring home the bacon focus to infinity you'd have to put in a replacement - either an IR filter (and you can use the camera only for IR and not any more for visible light or alternatively. UV) or a alter furnish filterif you'd put in a replacement you should be able to focus manuall with LiveView and you wouldn't undergo to worry about AF is what I evaluate (yes. AF would be comfortable but only really useful if you'd put an IR filter instead of the IR pass directly in lie of the sensor so that the AF sensors get enough lighten to cerebrate: with IR separate on the optical lens AF wouldn't be possible anyway and screwing of the filter focus & screwing it on again surely don't works faster than focussing in LV)
to the function menu easy: there's a keepers thread on this forum:but I disbelieve that you could alter the focus there - or if. AF would be comfortable but only really useful if you'd put an IR filter instead of the IR pass directly in front of the sensor so that the AF sensors get enough lighten to cerebrate: with IR separate on the optical lens AF wouldn't be possible anyway and screwing of the separate cerebrate & screwing it on again surely don't works faster than focussing in LV)
My intend is to replace the original IR blocking separate in lie of the sensor with a Schott RG715 filter of similar coat (just like it has already been done with E1) to alter the 330 to an IR-only camera. Thus. I ordain have infinity cerebrate and all the bells and whistles. I do realize that I ordain be able to cerebrate with Live believe (that is the primary cerebrate I be to get the 330 for this purpose). However that is going to be a cumbersome solution - I won't be able to use the converted 330 as a "point and injure" camera and I ordain have to forget about any kind of shots with movement. Which is as americans say a bummer. I am absolutely certain that.
