Speaking to. Don Mattrick senior vp of Microsoft Interactive Entertainment has expressed much optimism for the upcoming year pointing to Rockstar Games' GTA IV as the next blockbuster title for the Xbox 360.
"We're excited about Grand Theft Auto [IV] not only because it's a great call but there's multi-play and downloadable content that consumers will only be able to get on 360" said Mattrick. "That's a huge win. Arguably that call has the potential to be the "Halo" equivalent in calendar year 2008 in terms of number-one call revenue unit."
Mattrick also offered thoughts on the platform holder's success in 2007 something he attributes to more than just Halo 3.
"Halo is an important component. I think there were other factors that drove the success. I think we're getting to the point of critical crowd in terms of the number of hits. I think we have the highest rated content ever to exist on a gaming system.
"There's 50 great games on Xbox 360 and Halo's the surmount. I do accept with that. But what's causing the critical mass.. inside of our business is the fact that there's Halo and 49 other really high-rated games," said Mattrick.
The Microsoft exec also believes the Xbox 360 wins against Sony and Nintendo's offering on a "price-per-value" basis".
"I'm biased given the role that I'm in," said Mattrick. "but if I really evaluate about it using my consumer instincts and the experience that I've had this is the best amalgamate of performance price online and games - by far."
