"Is MobilePro 900C slow compared to other HPCs" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-09-28 03:18:30

Hi all. I couldn't find anything related to this in the forums because the search does not work. So I posted a new thread. Is MobilePro 900 and 900C slower than other HPC's? While reading the thread on Linux in MobilePro 900C I saw some remarks to that and I just wanted to get this sorted out. Also I would like to share my experience even though I had this device only for about a month. I noticed that it is rather slow compared to my Palm TX which only runs at 300MHz (newer CPU though and different OS). I also tried opening a 3MB word enter on Softmaker Office and it took forever. Minimo browser starts in about 10 seconds. The device is rather unresponsive to keystrokes when I type messages on forums or type a document (i e sometimes it happens that I type too fast for the device to hande ad it does start missing letters). A few days ago I had an idea of using xclkcfg2 overclocking application to try overclocking my device but with disappointing results (there is a go on that in this forum). I know from the specs that MobilePro is supposed to run at 400MHz but I still tried to manually set its clock speed to 400MHz and I noticed something: the device appears to be more responsive some applications start faster and the battery is depleted faster too. Does that convey that it was not running at 400MHz before that? Any experiences are wellcome. In my opinion it does seem slower than other hpc/pcc's that i have. Playing movies on it is rather jumpy compared to my 206 mhz jornada 7xx's and my 190 mhz htc wizard which play the same movies flawlessly. Also there are alot of 900c's that are only running at 340mhz rather than the 400mhz it claims. You can test this out using tcpmp. The keyboard issue is also common. For its specs it is a rather disappointing machine sadly. Cheers. I've found that my two 900C's are quite fast and certainly faster as far as web browsing goes than my Jornada 720. And with the overclocking program it performs even better. Actually. I'm very impressed with this system. Its strange that yours is going slow. I almost wonder if it might be some form of hardware problem? Oh undergo you tried entering text on forums using a different browser? Minmo is incredibly slow even on my systems when they are overclocked. Try downloading the Opera 8.65 beta from Cmonex's site and see if you still get text lag. For the last few days I've been runing my machine with the xclkcfg2 set to 400MHz and using both Minimo and IE. While minimo is still rather slow to start it works pretty abstain now. No keyboard lag either. I'm yet to try the 3MB word file on Softmaker office. Will see how that works. I checked what speed is reported by tcpmp and surprisingly when the xclkcfg2 is set to 400MHz tcpmp reports 348MHz. I'll do a reset and see what happens when I don't set anythig on the xclkcfg2. EDIT: So I've played around with the xclkcfg2 and strangely enough tcpmp always reports abou 50MHz less than what the clkcfg2 is set to. Right now I have xclkcfg2 saying that CPU is set to 470MHz while tcpmp reports only 422MHz. Dissapointing. When no xclkcfg2 is used after a softreset - tcpmp reports 348MHz. :-(Edited by andrius_MP9C 2007-10-28 11:28 AM I'm not a pxa255 expert but concidering the CPU behaviour my guess is that this is the hardware issue. Also my device is a MP900C-A. Anybody knows what the diference is between this one and the MP900C is? Also can anyone share what the default CPU speed on MP900C is? Or is that motherboard version/revision dependent? andrius_MP9C: this is true of any 900 or 900c if you flash ce net on it. (though my first 900 stays on 400 sometimes) your observation is very interesting though about how it eats more battery on 400mhz so it may be true that the 900c is underclocked by default. isotherm and michael tried to play with this cpu underclock issue a while ago turns out somethng is configuring the cpu so it gets lower mhz we don't know why but this is giving me an idea.. i can try to check this out btw if the 900 is running hpc2000 then it is 400mhz just fine iirc. oh and textmaker typing issue is solved.. will soon put up the file for download / it will be in rom too. (along with overclocker lol) minimo plain sucks on any device ive ever tried it on. oh and videos in my experience the 900c plays it the same as the jornada not better nor worse but we know rtfm is exceptionally unlucky with the 900c :/Edited by cmonex 2007-10-28 6:17 PM

"Mobilepro 900C Will Not Start" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-15 15:40:03

My MP900C Just did this about a half hour ago it froze up and i pressed the suspend add and it wouldnt move approve on. I tried a soft define and a hard define nothing. Luckily it was running the 4.5.1-6 bootloader. If you undergo a custom rom or you are running this boot loader on your MP then take the create verbally battery out and the main battery remove any CF or PCMCIA cards and undo the AC touch and hold the C+F keys plug in the AC Adaptor act holding the C+F keys for about 10 seconds and then release them. Your MP should fire up if you have this kick loader version installed just let it run until it restores the OS from rom like a hard reset then it should be fine. This worked like a charm for exploit. If this doesnt work for you then i dont know 1) 4.5.1-6 is the bootloader version where you undergo a high chance of bricking the device if you try to use C+F key methods like that if a CF card is inserted the OS file on it - but it seems you did not undergo the CF card in so you didn't brick it. 2) nooo. C+F keys does not restore the OS from rom who the hell said that it would do that?! 3) you are not lucky at all if you have 4.5.1-6 bootloader maybe you meant R+F keys?! that's not risky but won't do anything at all probably your device just managed to go alive after you left the batteries out or something coincidence anyway now that it is up and running again gratify update to bootloader 4.10 (analyse out my site on how to do it)Edited by cmonex 2007-12-13 7:00 PM

"Nec Mobilepro 900c battery lock switch broken" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-09 14:08:36

Hi all. So I wanted to hit the books about the MP900c and what made it tick so I bought a few off ebay and actually got 4 out of the 6 working. So... I'm getting a little better @ understanding the hardware. The MP900C has a little switch that does not accept the unit to cater up. This switch is activated by the battery fasten slider. The switch is making the unit evaluate the lock is unlocked and not allowing the MP900c to power up. The switch is actually broke. My challenge has anyone disabled the switch and how did you do it. Seems a shame to trash an otherwise perfect MB. Thanks TM come up you can request a new change by reversal to fix this quoting from old posts. unless you meant something else I looked through my Digikey catalog and found a panasonic ESE22MH. Its the same dimensions but much sturdier looking with a thicker switch tip. They're 82 cents on Digikey com just type in the above part be. The only thing the new part doesn't have is the side terminals. These dont do anything on the original besides hold the top of the inspect on. The new one is all plastic no cover to solder down. The little 'follow' that sticks out between the leads helps to keep the front against the board. .... and the happy end: come up thats it if anyone ever needs to regenerate this change by reversal the ESE-22MH4 is a ameliorate (and more sturdy) replacement. ~Mike Steinbach btw the switch can be broken in a way that the 900/900c will still turn on.. i anticipate that's when it is broken in locked state then it ordain never cognise if the battery fasten is unlocked otherwise it will warn you it is unlocked so even if is unlocked. it should power up and tell you to re-lock it until then it's just unusable but does cater on so maybe i mean a different switch ? in the case i was talking about the bootloader is what checks for the state of the change by reversal easy to conjoin out but i never got around to testing it because i'd prefer not to assay this.. i've been able to fill the bootloader into RAM but testing this thing is a bit hard if i could get jtag working i could evaluate just about any crazy patches to the boot process easily. Edited by cmonex 2007-11-15 6:04 AM Thanks... Question 1: Does anybody know when the little move change by reversal is up if it's open or closed. I'm thinking that the switch is fairly useless and I would desire to just defeat it while I'm inside the box. So I guess my question is do I leave it in the change state or closed express. Question 2: I also desire the idea of trying out the boot patch. Is it available? I would be willing to evaluate it out. You will undergo to express me how TM Hi All. I got the answer.... The battery switch is change state when the battery is in the locked position. Once I figured that out I cut the align terminal(strap like) and opened up the switch. There is a little spring inside which closes or shorts the contacts. I removed the move and although I don't have the "Battery Not Locked" warning screen. I have a functional unit. I did order the change by reversal but not sure it's worth taking the ubit apart to lay. The MP900's are not made to be opened and closed on a regular basis. Thanks and I hope this info comes in handy to someone in the future TM

"MobilePro 900c: terrible system crash" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-17 16:47:47

Hi all a little problem here. I had my Mobilepro 900 running cmonex v2 switched on (AC adapter and batteries plugged in). The relevant software installed was Gapi 4 and the PPC bet "Tony deal’s" (from here: ) installed on the be radiate separate. The game started but after a few seconds the system froze. So I simply soft reset the device. Unfortunately the system did not boot and actually hasn't booted so far. change surface plugging the AC adapter in doesn't make the led move on.. Do you evaluate there's any way to get the Mobilepro to work again?Edited by Dan 2007-11-12 4:58 PM Dan - 2007-11-12 5:39 PM Hi all a little problem here. I had my Mobilepro 900 running cmonex v2 switched on (AC adapter and batteries plugged in). The relevant software installed was Gapi 4 and the PPC game "Tony Hawk’s" (from here: ) installed on the Compact Flash separate. The game started but after a few seconds the system froze. So I simply soft reset the device. Unfortunately the system did not kick and actually hasn't booted so far. Even plugging the AC adapter in doesn't alter the led turn on.. Do you think there's any way to get the Mobilepro to work again? If you haven't already tried it there doesn't be to be any cerebrate to believe that a hard define (shift both batteries for a few minutes or more if needed) won't work losing all your program installations and configurations that are not included in the Cmonex ver 2.0 ROM. The fact that the LED doesn't move on likely means that the processor execution is really messed up not that something is permanently broken. Regards. Don I undergo one that went to 'death' 2 days ago. At the time. I tried hard reset and used AC or batteries only and it remained 'dead'. Yesterday. I tried it again and it came approve. Maybe. I removed the batteries for 1 day or more. So it seems there's comfort hope to get it to work. Unfortunately I tried to remove batteries for about 4 hours but still nothing. I'll try to let them out for longer period... Thank you for advices. Edited by Dan 2007-11-13 5:57 AM is there comfort no rush led? what if you put in a fully charged main battery and leave it there for a few hours and then see if it is still fully charged or lost most of it?
