Which? undergo done a study which can basically be summed up by saying that commercial PC security software (and the rubbish built into Windows) is by and large "not very good" (to put it diplomatically). Norton and McAfee are largely rubbish and so is Microsoft's cram (as you would expect). When I ran my old PC support co a couple of years ago I open Norton and McAfee universally not catching viruses and slowing down computers radically. Microsoft's attempts at PC security are widely known in the IT world as a joke. It is nice to see this backed up by a more consumer facing official chew over.
