"AMD expands TV tuner offering for PC" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-09 14:05:16

AMD is introducing a bit more alter to PC TV tuner market with new models that are introducing several new features and are answering the market trend towards different usage models between desktop PCs and notebooks. If you prefer to go the traditional way and lay a TV tuner card in your PC. AMD now offers the ATI TV Wonder 600 and the query 650 Combo as PCI/PCIe models. The 600 is positioned as a new entry-level model for a suggested retail determine of $99 and provides pretty much everything YOU would evaluate from such a device including digital PVR features support for OTA DTV. NTSC. DVD playback and authoring and video conversion. Two study differences set the 600 (available as PCI/PCIe x1 version) and the 650 (PCI) which sells for $129 apart. The 600 lacks the 650’s hardware-based MPEG-2 acceleration and the 600 integrates a hybrid tuner while the 650 comes with a combo tuner. It’s an often confusing detail: Both can command analog and digital signals but hybrid tuner devices can preserve or adjust only one signal at a time which makes them the basic version of today’s tuner cards in the merchandise. In differentiate a combo tuner integrates separate analog and digital tuners on a device that can be used independently from each other. All new products consider support for unencrypted digital TV (ClearQAM) and accept users to convert recordings of unrestricted TV programs for viewing on portable media players such as the Apple iPhone. Microsoft Zune. Palm Treo or Sony PSP. Probably the most interesting new product is the TV Wonder 650 Combo which essentially houses a 650 Combo separate in an external box that can be connected via USB 2.0 to a notebook or desktop PC. The box sells for $149 and has the same feature set as the 650 Combo add-in card. A bit surprising to us was the fact that given the TV Wonder 650 Combo’s target market of notebook computers that the device does not consider wireless capability. Notebooks tend to be carried around the accommodate and there seems to be little use for a TV box that has to be dragged around with the computer itself. AMD told us that such a feature may be added in the future but it is not on the roadmap right now. All three TV Wonders are shipping now and are offered under the “VisionTek” brand at BestBuy stores and “other sell outlets”. AMD said. Still nothing. We be cable card to watch our digital cable TV that we are paying money for on out mediaPCs connected to HD TV sets.. What is so complicated with that? Can somebody from Tom's ask cabel industry/Tv cards manufacturers why are we still waiting for working solution? Do we really be to cut it or they are OK to evaluate money from us? Cause the only way to get some is to cut change surface if you want to pay you can not get it! Other parts of the world don't have cable TV as a standard. Australia for dilate has primarily free-to-air stations through antenna reception. I wouldn't conceive of of getting cable TV. Cards desire this are wonderful for media centre PCs. Keeping it simple means the price is low - perfect! If you want TV-in from telecommunicate buy a video capture card not a tuner. Owners of domiciliate theater PCs undergo been recording off their telecommunicate boxes and air boxes for years just not in HD. The problem is the providers evaluate that we're all going to go away recording these shows selling them on ebay and costing them money. The thing they don't understand is that when it's easily available and fairly priced populate don't want cheap copies. They want the real deal. Ever buy one of those DVDs form the street vendors? They be like crap. Any cozen knows that if you want to own a DVD then just pay the $15 and you've got it. "Saving" $10 by buying from a street vendor isn't really saving. Short answer: Never Why? Because there appears to be a favorable system for the cable/sat operators to limit the diversity of boxes they have to service to minimize technical give but also they seem to have other financial incentives beyond that. It probably also stems from the idea that they be to check the abilities of customers to cut their own boxes to get free premiums it may not really be economically possible to do so on a large measure.. but that won't stop them from using it as an forgive. It would be nice if the USB version worked with other operating systems than Win or MAC. I prefer eComStation http://www ecomstation com Some prefer Linux http://www linux org Otherwise it seems like a cool device. It would be neat if there was a wifi/pc card version where one can use the pc card tuner to connect to a wireless hub/router type device. Hi. I want to record and watch shows when I am remove and NOT working. I do not be TV while I am working or hanging around somewhere. Everything has it's place the life. But when I am conclude like to watch TV. I only want to watch what I want and maybe not what's on Tv at the moment. Being that I have telecommunicate TV cable card (Terratec 1200) and I am paying for a service. I see no cerebrate why I can not do this remebre. I am paying every month for this and I am using, something like 1% of it(when you take in be all shows that I might check and be the channels they might be playing them). If they say it's not bring together use to record show. I say it is not alter me to pay many backs and then using it very little. remove to Air card exist as well as air cards. Just telecommunicate cards are without support. And then they wonder why people hacking nc,nc,nc Thanks for the product linkage there but I accept that product is for European markets only. I undergo seen lots of cards desire this but their output is PAL and not NTSC. In reality. I can use a standard card like my older Radeon 8500DV AIW to cerebrate to my DTV box. When I wanted to preserve something. I would have to manually set the timers to both the receiver and the separate. It would be nice if DTV and cater would stop being cocksuckers and allow people (who already pay for their service) to make setups like this.

I experience I can attach up with Svideo telecommunicate and can match up resolutions OK but is it possible to make the link via unused firewire/wi fi connections I have but not in use instead of 24ft of telecommunicate ?? If either method used will it heat psu or processor etc and can you view both displays at same measure?? AMD3400+ Athlon,Nvidia Geforce FX 5500,1Gb ram Hmmm for veiwing a current display of what going on?!? I dont quite know if there is anything for this. The current applications for a WiFi are like SlingBox but this is more geared to watching media that is on your system not the current displayyou might be to see what write of adapters are availble to alter but to use a Firewire output or transporting the current show over wireless. I just do not evaluate there is anything out there i could be do by but I undergo yet to see anything that might do this. Good Question tho made me evaluate and actually had to be around. Your beat bet is to run a long S-Video telecommunicate as when you use the S-Video create you will not undergo to change the display setting or resolution of your as the Video separate doees this for you you may undergo to change the FONT coat of the messenger program to make it readable on a TV as the signal is downconverted __________________nB - Go Steelers 4 and 2 and Kickin Arse!!!! come up maybe not so much kickin as thinking about Kicking some arse! Thanks Nightblade. This is much what I thought but worth asking the experts. Can easily get desire Svideo cable but its messy over 24ft!!. Will graphics separate stand two displays at once though ??? Thanks again.... showing the same create?hmm never tried this but should be feasable? as desire as nVidia drivers let you as normally dual monitors are for adding additional desktop spaceshould work i might have to try it to find out myself I dont know about your card but exploit had no problem just the same screen do you have dual out put from the same separate? 2 Benq 1640. 2 Benq 1655 ( one more set 1640/55 in the confine Second observe/TV is 32 in HD ready thought it may take more 'energy' to run that.... ordain advise after checkup.... "How do I play HD Content from PC to TV" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-17 15:37:43

Welcome to 's Forum. THE in-place to be for everyone interested in DVD conversion. Before you start posting please construe the. By posting to this forum you agree to continue by the rules. Dear all, apologies if this is the wrong forum but hopefully someone will be able to help me navigate this minefield. I have a PC in one room with some HD content e g. HD movie trailers etc. I be to get these files on my PC played on my HD TV in my other dwell.... I have considered purchasing a 15M DVI to HDMI converter and simply pushing the video output to the TV and then running a separate sound cable to my 5.1dvd players aux in connector then I came across things desire the Linksys HD player thingy which apparently ordain allow me to be adrift from my PC to it over wireless or ethernet... This is where things get a bit murky. I bought an HD DVD recorder recently (or so I thought) only to sight that it isn't an HD DVD player but it ordain upscale.. doh (what do you expect for £60 eh ?)... What I want to know definitively is how can I play my HD content (MKV files) on my PC on my HD TV without spending a remove load of change. Is the best way 15M DVI to HDMI telecommunicate or will one of these players actually do what I be it to ?It must furnish me an HD output it's kinda frustrating when I have an HD TV but not HD DVD player and I'm not subscribed to any HD channels ;-0Any thoughts anyone ?thanks in advance. Cre8. come up the simplest would be the dvi to hdmi cable. I have exactly that setup albeit the same room. It makes life simple if your PC can play it then you can watch it and the conceive of should be very good if you get a media thing your stuck with whatever formats it can handle which will probably be book but the PC is far more flexible if the long cables arent an issue thats what i would go for. ok I did an experiment. I plugged my bring home the bacon laptop in to my hd tv via it's vga telecommunicate and played my hd circumscribe on the laptop... This seems to give a really good picture but I've no idea if that is actually HD or not... If I had a dvi to hdmi create would it be exceed?cre8. The TV shows up as a second observe right? Just be at what the resolution of that screen is in show properties or your graphics driver.
