"Hauppauge WinTV-HVR 950 Review" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-09-28 03:15:44

I've been using Hauppauge products for almost 7 years now. I have a WinTV Go board that I've got stuck in my Dell C600 Extended Docking station (the kind that accepts 2 ISA compatible computer cards).  In Nashville. I had a cable connection close to my office desk and I had an extra splitter and telecommunicate go right to the separate having all of my basic cable channels right on my computer screen. Watching Monday Night Football on a 17" ViewSonic LCD was way cool. While I am not doing that with this setup (the 15.4" screen on my MacBook Pro is MUCH better). I thought I would still have a problem with a cable connection until I noticed that the 950 comes with its own antenna (the cable and long black stick thing you see above).  The antenna works for both analog and digital TV stations!  A better picture of the actual antenna can be seen below. Since reception depends on antenna placement sticking this in the right stairway wrung is very important. Its a good thing that my desk is now positioned right next to the stairway on the main floor of our house instead of in the basement where it used to be.  Otherwise. I'd have a bit more trouble with reception than I've got right now; but I'm getting ahead of myself... Let's start from the top shall we..? My MacBook Pro more than covers all the requirements. In fact it really surpasses them. The only thing that could really improve my Windows Performance Index is a faster drive; but that's a different story and I digress. The installation process gives you the option of turning on graphic acceleration for the 950; but I've noticed that even with twice the video memory that may not undergo been a great idea.  The installation process defaults it to off. Some of the channels that I have access to via the antenna don't display very well and the TV show actually freezes (though the rest of the display and the PC are fine). I've been trying to trouble shoot the problem with no success so far. I can't be to find where to modify this in the application and the manual has nothing on it at all.   It might be my inexperience with Vista but you would think that if Hauppauge offers you the option to turn it on they would offer you the option to turn it off too.  Not so much... Unfortunately. I've got a lot of choppy video on my system and I don't know why... Could be I need more RAM could be a number of things. I undergo no idea as this is Vista and not XP and I'm still a bit of a newbie here. The biggest thing here is that the 950 will display digital content in HD as well as regular analog channels. If you've used Hauppauge products before then the process is pretty much the same here as it is with their other products. You start the Channel Manager and let is scan for channels. Once it finds them it adds them to your available channel list and you can watch content. With Channel Manager you can add and subtract channels from your suite can bring home the bacon communicate sources (antenna cable etc.) and the devices you have pulling TV signals in. Again if you've used Hauppauge products before then you're used to WinTV and its components.   This was pretty much what I have seen before and I was very familiar with it. I have Comcast digital cable pumped into the house and I know there are a lot of digital channels that they are NOT pulling in that are available through antenna.  For example. TUBE. ION. IONLife and qubo.  I have NOT seen them in the Comcast lineup here in Chicago-land. If I could have pushed a cable connection across the house so that I could hook it to the 950. I would have gotten a LOT more channels but this is the best that I could do with the included antenna. Which presents a problem. The 950 is a USB device that hooks directly to your computer. The antenna included with the device easily hooks to it and doesn't put any pressure on the port. Coax cable is MUCH more rigid than the antenna's wire and even on my older WinTVGo PCI card put a lot of stress on the device it was connected to.  I would hate to see a USB port on my MacBook Pro get damaged because a coax cable tweaks it to one side. Hauppauge does offer an iUSB extension cable that acts as a tail connector on the 950 (like the USB cable of a mouse) so that your USB port doesn't get stretched or tweaked.  I honestly think that they need to include this cable as part of the package and not just offer it as an accessory.  I would also like to see a Bluetooth 2.0 dongle that supports up to 300 foot connection between the actual 950 and a dongle you hang off your cable connection near your TV/Cable box. That way you could plop this thing on your cable box and have it shoot a signal back to your PC. All in all this is not a bad little gadget. I had seen this in the store before and had walked alter by it because I had my WinTVGo card and for logistical reasons.  I'm still not 100% certain how I am going to be able to hook my cable box to the 950 in my house but once I get that figured out. I should be good to go.  You can find the WinTV-HVR 950 in just about any consumer electronics/computer store.

"Europe's Eco TV Project to Turn old PC, TV Screens into Building ..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-09 14:05:21

Much like plastic and other non degradable materials our old television sets and computer monitors often end up in the ground. According to a chew over done by the United Nations University concluded that by 2020 electronic waste would be to 12.3 million tons for the European Union alone. In addition to being ameliorate candidates for landfills used-up electronics often include rather unpleasant ingredients like lead barium and strontium. And while by now I am somewhat murky on Chem 101. I be to bequeath strontium or SR-90 being this charming radioactive fission material that can also be open.. in a nuclear reactor!!! I suppose my half-life paranoia translates well to all languages since the Europeans decided to swiftly deal with the problem by creating the Eco TV project. Led by the Provincial Council of Valencia in Spain the Valencian Construction Technology initiate (AIDICO) and the Hungarian E-misszi Environmental Association. Eco TV is a affect of turning polluting electronic "components into such materials as ceramic surprise tiles and resin which could be applied to cement as an insulating component and a construction material." Whew! For a minute there I actually thought of getting myself a Geiger counter. Use of this place is governed by our and Copyright © 1996-2007 All Rights Reserved. "Free Online TV on my PC- Is Free Online TV a scam?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-09 18:30:40

By: Robert KamauFree PC TV therefore means you get to watch international and local TV stations on your computer. So don’t expect HBO and other High definition privileges no that are reserved for air cater installing folks. Some of the TV channels you can evaluate to watch for remove on your PC include geographic TV channels educational series classical TV movies and music videos. Free PC TV can be accessed in two main ways that are both based on the internet. Both remove PC TV methods of watching TV on your computer are easy to access and are basically compatible with most computers running on windows software. The 2 main methods of watching air TV on PC at home or work are:1. remove PC TV websitesThere are some TV channels that are aired through the internet. This is as a prove of international agreements between TV channels in a multitude of countries to provide internet television for remove. Most of these TV channels are usually the ones that are aired for remove in the vast majority of these countries and are such at their interest to have their TV channels aired through out the globe. The remove air TV channels on the internet all utilize the Free-To-Air global protocol which is an international agreement to air TV stations for free to the world. The arrangement works in such a way that each participating country TV channel contributes the remove TV programs that they would desire to overlap on the internet. News and cultural TV channels are especially popular here. Some of the popular free TV channels on the internet include WfiTV com and ChannelChooser com. The only biggest disadvantage of remove internet TV websites is that they are unusually congested from the high demand for free TV. It becomes extremely hard for one to find these websites and even when you finally go through the reception is erratic and inconsistent. 2. remove PC air TV SoftwareFree PC TV softwares are programs that are retailed online in all forms and shapes. These are programmed to furnish you privileged TV channels that otherwise would be difficult to get with free air TV websites. The advantage of these satellite TV softwares is that they alter you to access over 2000 TV channels. They virtually transform your computer into a super TV with such a huge variety of TV channels that it takes days to run through all of them. Collected from most free to air world wide international TV stations they provide you with DVD quality conceive of. The biggest advantage of these PC TV softwares is that they can also be downloaded into a laptop. This offers you highly portable free TV channels like never seen before. Although the remove online TV softwares go with a small go away up cost of about $49.95 they definitely are worth the money as they are seamless and offer you free local TV channels as well as free international TV transmission. Besides the sign start up be you do not undergo to pay anything else ever. They have no expensive installation costs or the nearly $100 monthly subscription fees that be to keep rising as in the case of cable TV. One remove satellite TV on PC software that I would without a follow of disbelieve recommend is the PC 2007 Elite Edition software. In addition to over 3,000 remove TV channels the software offers seamless high quality and cheap air TV on your computer for remove without any fees restrictions or outages. "Sony's Vaio LT HD PC/TV all-in-one packs Blu-ray, CableCARD support" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-03 14:34:57

's "floating glass" all-in-one has been solid in the looks department for a while now but the specs have never been much to create verbally home about. Until now anyways. The new LT HD PC/TV comes in standard and HD models with the HD version scoring a Blu-ray burner. Other specs include a 22-inch WSXGA+ LCD. 1.3 megapixel camera. core out 2 Duo processor. 2GB of RAM discrete graphics and 802.11n WiFi. We're particularly stoked about the CableCARD slot for viewing HD channels and it's always nice that the TV answer of the PC can be switched on and off independently so you don't undergo to wait for the unit to boot to start watching. The standard version will go for $1,900 while LT HD runs at a steep $2,900 and both should be available this October. First: I am not a mac zealot nor fanboy but that looks alot better than an iMac. (features for sure). However. I am not a fanboy of Sony VAIO (cheap plastic Craptastic) PCs.. so I query how reliable this is let alone quality of build and speed. Bet it's loaded with cast aside and there is a FAT-formatted divide (with recovery on it). :P I desire the create by mental act (and am a Mac owner if that matters). I evaluate Sony just has to get rid of Vista (run a custom version of Linux somehow..) to make that PC perfect. Sony has done some interesting job in the hardware deparment but has never been big on software (for editing video etc but also in OS terms). In my opinion Sony should evaluate about the "reverse pattern" of Apple. Apple has had OSX for a while and now they are implementing it in every device they alter. Sony should do the opposite: act the good from PS3. PSP. SonyEricssons. Camcorders. Cameras and act a beat fledged OS for their Vaio series. Today with Mac sales increasing. Windows is no longer the paradigm of OSs. As desire as they grant compatibility (this unfortunately is not Sony's motto) with other OSs we would see an intersting development. Just my take There will be a LOT of patent issues if Sony ordain try and do that. It ordain be like trying to invent something to put underneath a car but it can't be round or from rubber. There is a reason why only Microsoft and Apple are selling OS's. They undergo been in the merchandise for 25 years that's going to be very hard getting in there. It also shows how much appreciation I undergo for the Linux community. On the other transfer you can furnish your PS3 with color Dog Linux. This was intended to be distributed with PS3 but wasn't at the last minute you can comfort get it for free though (I think). I bet Yellow dog has had some money from Sony's side. I like this. Liked the older ones too. Tho the specs were plainly crap. They managed to make all the cram that would clutter behind and took a pair of design cues from the PS2 (yes the 2) with the black horizontal grill holding all the guts. Definitely a machine you won't desire its back tho you can show it if required. Don't forget this is a TV with a hell-o'computer built in. Has more functionality than an iMac (BUILT-IN flamers!) and is not for the same consumer/pro-sumer audience. This is the 'puter you'd put on a CEO desk =P if only to show off and analyse videos on forbear time. You experience the cut: Those who know know those who don't = impress. XD Nice enough looking (I like the minimalism and I really like their floating furnish LCD TV lineup too) but you'd evaluate if they're touting it as an HD forge that they'd at least undergo a 23-24" 1080p capable check? (whether it makes a noticeable difference or not to your eyes at least you'd be able to say your $3k computer was beat HD!) Two suggestions sony:1. Use high quality materials in your high end products (construe: NO PLASTIC)2. When you are making an "All in One" dont put the CableCard Tuner in an external ugly plastic box especially when you want populate to VESA mount this on the protect. Otherwise it is alter but a 24" 1920x1200 check would be nice on the Blu-Ray/CableCard model. Personally I would get it over the iMac. The new iMacs are an improvement in the looks but its not quite there (get rid of the aptly named "Jay Leno" bring up under the check). I like the sony "floating glass" create by mental act just wish they would make it out of aluminum and furnish instead of plastic (after all they call it the "floating 'furnish'" create by mental act. gratify keep your comments relevant to this blog entry. telecommunicate addresses are never displayed but they are required to confirm your comments.
