"Blurry PC video" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-03 14:33:46

I'm having a bit of trouble trying to get decent clarity from my PC/TV. Everything is fine when using my LCD observe but not my DLP. Samsung HL-T5087S DLPCustom built PC w/ Nvidia 7900GTThe video separate has dual DVI outs and I've tried both outlets with a DVI/HDMI adapter and a HDMI cable as come up as the regular RGB cord (w/adapter). Both produce poor results and neither is any exceed than the other. The entire picture is blurry but the edges of the check are terrible. I've spent hours adjusting every possible setting from the computer to the TV and I've read the manual twice now. I've used multiple resolutions and the higher I go (up to 1920x1080) the worse it gets. Also the top of the screen bows downward. Strangely tv stations look fine and HD is great (as good as U-Verse gets anyway). There is no bowing or blurriness at all when watching TV. I'm just stumped. Help! I don't know who thought it was a good idea but for whatever reason. Samsung DLP's undergo a digital overscan feature which effectively zooms in the raw image just a little bit which make it blurry because you are no longer getting 1:1 pixel mapping. This overscan is in addition to the cropping caused by the bezel. In request to get 1:1 pixel mapping this digital overscan must be disabled. On the old models (several years old) you used to be able to alter this overscan in the user menu. On the newer models you can only do this within the service menu which requires pressing a special sequence of buttons on the remote. Furthermore on some models such as the HL-Sxx57 you can disable the overscan feature in the service menu but the settings wont save once the leave the service menu. I bought the HS-5088 specifically because the 88 models undergo a firmware which allows the overscan to be permanently disabled. I could be do by but I don't accept that digital overscan can be disabled on the HL-T series.. which would really drink. analyse the display devices/rear projection forums here at AVS and there ordain be a desire thread for your particulary show. You ordain sight a lot of information there including how to find the function menu and what adjustments to alter in there. DNIe is another culprit. Again. I don't experience who thought it was a good idea to impliment this feature but all it does is screw up the picture.. particularly noticeable on fonts. If you want a good visualise you be to alter it. As for the bowing if your image is bowing down from the top you have a geometry issue. It's just more noticeable when viewing PC content than when you are watching TV. analyse the forum. If the geometry is out above a certain be. Samsung will service the set to correct the air. I experience that some pincusioning on the sides is normal for Samsung DLP's due to the cabinet size and optics but I'm not sure about the top and furnish.. those should be level. DLP's are great displays but keep in mind that the manufactures position them for normal TV use not as computer monitors. They can still be great for computer use but not until after you get into the service menu and tweak them. I absolutely love my HL-S5088w but I wouldn't get a newer Samsung if they didn't alter it possible to get 1:1 pixel mapping. That's absolutely essential to being able to construe PC text without getting a headache. HDTV's overescan their inputs on the TV interfaces such as DVI and HDMI in order to emulate standard CRT TVs whose picture shrunk when the sets warmed up. All Samsung units also give a VGA interface which does not overscan since it is emiulating a stancard PC monitor and the users's manual for Samsung HDTVs undergo a separate chapter concerning using this VGA inteface with PCs Thanks so much for the back up! I've been reading the huge go on my TV. I think the bowing is a flee in my particular model one I need to call in to Samsung. As for the blurriness. I'm comfort trying to figure out how to understand this. I really purchased this TV to be a TV but I'd desire to use a computer for some internet and music. forgive me while I go open my eyeballs. "Transmit PC Video to TV through Wireless?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-23 16:30:32

I've searched through a bunch of threads and haven't found the say I was looking for. I defend if I missed it. I am trying to find out if it is possible to stream video on my PC to my HDTV using my domiciliate wireless network. I experience apple tv can do it but I haven't read a lot of good reviews about it and it is limited on what schedule you be to use (or so I've been told). I use Netflix and be to be able to stream the "check now" movies to my TV rather than watch on my computer check. Directly hooking the PC up to the TV is not an option at this time. I am running a 2.6ghz dual core AMD with 2gb of RAM. I am running Vista Home Premium on a GeForce 512mb 7900GT video card. I do NOT have a TV tuner in the PC at this measure. Is there a way to do what I want? I anticipate I will need a TV tuner card but wasn't sure what else is out there that is similar to apple tv (but better). Any help is greatly appreciated. You be some choose of "computing media device" hooked up to your TV whether it be your PC or a media extender that can uncompress and display the video on your TV. You can't just displace the uncompressed video signal wirelessly to your TV at any reasonable resolution. A TV tuner card is for watching TV on your PC.. the opposite of what you be to do. This: is an example of something that might bring home the bacon. Edit: the linksys version looks like it supports WMV so it might give the Netflix videos. Not completely alter on what you be to do but if you undergo a VGA enter on your TV there are wireless VGA solutions out there. Mitch A tv tuner card is for "tuning" for inputting video into a pc. NOT for sending video out to the tv. And for the netflix thing you'd acutally be a pc and a web browser there is no way of using an extender write device to stream the netflix video function to a tv. The ONLY real option is to directly hook up your pc to the tv there are things desire wireless hdmi like this: but they are arouse expensive for what you get out of it. So again either buy a long hdmi cable or move the pc.- bait Not completely alter on what you want to do but if you undergo a VGA enter on your TV there are wireless VGA solutions out there. Mitch Thanks for the enter everyone. To answer your questions Mitch. I simply be to be able to fasten my PC up to my TV (use my TV as a monitor) without hard wiring it (it is way to far from my PC and a 30' cable would look ridiculous running across the dwell!). A wireless option is what I was hoping for and I believe you provided me a potential way of doing it through a wireless VGA hookup. I open the following as a starting inform and intend on doing some more investigate on other products. Thanks again That gefen hdmi wireless product doesn't appear to be available yet it's pre-orders they take. Also it says: visually losslessThat sounds fishy. And 1080p support seems limited to 30hz and not change surface listed in the enumerate further drink in their specs it caps at 1080i there. More fishy... Audio is lossy too. Nice try Gefen might be ok for those without a choice though once it is available. On those vga wireless extenders be careful. Again they have low specs and some only do 640x480 as if that's useful at all these days. You can't change surface use a browser at that res easily. You'll also be a wireless audio solution if that's not built in the vga things which do exist but you'd have to be careful the two don't hinder with each other or any wireless networking or other RF devices in your home and neighborhood and baffle your QOS. You can run VGA and audio cables through the walls floor attic anything. Or digital for that be. If you want this bad enough... undergo you thought about just using a cheap laptop and wireless networking on it?Troy Copyright ©1995 - 2007 AVS Forum. Inc. - All Rights Reserved.
