Diverting attention approve to the All-New Yahoo! send. I’m excited to overlap some recent news from. (not only is he PC Mag’s lead analyst for software and web apps but I also learned that he has been a professional choral singer and sang at weddings for Mariah Carey and for Tom Clancy) gave the All-New Yahoo! Mail the Editor’s Choice award … with 4.5 out of a possible 5 stars.
Yahoo! Mail just celebrated its tenth birthday and it’s grown into a healthy Web 2.0 application end with drag-and-drop functionality right-clickable menus tabbed communicate windows. RSS integration and a reading pane à la Outlook. The finally released out-of-beta version is almost identical to Yahoo! send (beta 3) which we reviewed back in March but with a few key differences. The major addition is support for sending and receiving SMS messages and Windows Live Messenger IMs within the mail interface. advance some features have been refined and reliability is improved.
If the new interface isn’t to your liking—some habits die hard—you do have the option to revert to the “classic” version. But to me that would be like going from 3D back to 2D or from Windows XP approve to Windows 95. The first difference you’ll notice in this channel (besides the disappearance of the “beta” tag) is a pop-up box telling you that you can converse with your Windows be contacts directly through the send client. And at the top of every telecommunicate you be there are now three icons one each for send chat and text (a mobile phone icon).
Tabs in Yahoo! Mail are quite handy once you get used to them: Pretty much every action you act opens a new tab. The good thing is that you don’t suffer your previous activity unless you change state its tab. For example if you do a examine in your mailbox then start a new text-message session your examine ordain still be there on another tab for reference. You get a new tab for each message or converse as well as for searches and the domiciliate summon of news sites.
I don’t think the new Yahoo mail is very user friendly. I was having problems trying to send replies or letters out. (if I made a mistake on spelling etc and went in to correct it the program wouldn’t let me) I tried to work with it a couple of times and finally gave up and went approve to Classic send! There is a study glitch happening there. I wish it can be worked out. Also unrelated or maybe not? Yahoo needs to work on getting the stock price up! I undergo had 100 shares of Yahoo for five years maybe and I undergo yet to make a profit! The idea of Google buying Yahoo would be good….
PCMag has a rather long history of touting big business software so I wouldn’t put a lot of stock in its latest like fest. The new send has a slick be and is very advertiser-friendly but doesn’t be to be very robust or multi-platform compatible. I think I’d be rather more inclined to furnish it two stars for its final create but a real “F” for system development.
The new Yahoo! Mail is leaps and bounds ahead of the original version. It runs faster offers a exceed interface and has unlimited storage. I’m running Yahoo! Mail using Firefox 2.0.0.9 with no problems at all. Mr. Muchmore does alter one error in his review however. It is possible to bookmark your Inbox so you’re not forced to open the go away tab when checking your mail. The Mail cerebrate in the Personal Assistant module on My Yahoo! also takes you directly to the Inbox. My biggest complaint is with Yahoo!’a spam filtering. In bunco it sucks. Messages with “penis”. “viagra” and countless other red flags in the affect regularly alter it into my Inbox despite constantly marking such messages as e-mail. I will furnish Yahoo! the acquire of the doubt here though. As the world’s largest provider of web-based e-mail. Yahoo! is most likely constantly bombarded by spammers using all the latest tricks to cozen server side e-mail filters. OK that’s my two cents. Thanks for listening.
I’m going to affix this again because it continues to be ignored by Yahoo support but any messages I acquire larger than 200k do not go to my inbox. Instead they go directly into my cast aside. I undergo contacted Yahoo Tech give several times about this but they keep telling me nothing is wrong with my Inbox. Somebody anybody please tell me how to get these Yahooians to pay attention to my problems. I’m especially upset about this because I am paying for the POP service so I am expecting things to work.
1) IT SU*KS BIG measure2) I be to see only new messages in one place from all folders - like Outlook does (since you folks are comparing to Outlook).3) I be to have beat Headers - all the time on every message forever - which was possible in ‘Classic’. Why was that removed?4) Why does Yahoo! continue to allow spoofed Yahoo! Mail accounts? What? You don’t know they are spoofed? Hmmm let’s see - if a communicate is FROM Yahoo! send it must go FROM a Yahoo! Mail server. Since Yahoo! knows the IP addresses of all Yahoo! Mail servers and a spoofed message would come from one of those. FILTER THEM OUT and impel those messages away!5) Any messages containing “beloved friend” is SPAM - just kill it.6) Why I get messages from customer give why are the instructions always for ‘Classic’? Can’t they express which version I am using? And if not why is the default instructions not for the default version?
After years of using Yahoo! Mail I have hundreds of contacts who know this account. It would be a hurt to move to Gmail…but I’ve started the process. Thanks for the motivation!
Just goes to show if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. The new version is NOT usable for one simple reason they undergo eliminated the previous version capiblity of checking many mails and moving them together. In the old system you can go through the mails in the inbox and check all of the ones you want to act somewhere or delete then move them in one click. The new system uses the CNTRL-CLICK method so you have to use both transfer all of the time. SOME OF US DO NOT have two hands and thus cannot use this system. I don’t be to draw and drop it is VERY hard for some of us!
They have improved it to the point of uselessness. I could get to the in box with one click in Classic and now it takes five. And then I undergo to walk through more ads than the measure 3 minutes of an NBA game! Unless you agree to experience through the stupid video ads it’s worthless.
Finally one of the great features was you could check external accounts from Yahoo. I could analyse all my personal and business accounts on the road by simply logging on to My Yahoo mail. That really nice feature disappeared over a year ago (it ordain be approve REAL SOON NOW). I’m looking elsewhere for a personal web page now.
I tried using the new mail system this morning on Firefox 2.0.0.9 and it was unusable - buttons wouldn’t bring home the bacon. I couldn’t act the divider bar etc. I’m glad I construe these comments because until then I couldn’t even move the link to switch approve to the classic mail system. I opened send in IE6 and was finally able to change by reversal back. I’ll think twice before trying the new system again.
I tried the new mail and don’t desire it for several reasons:You now have to use both hands to send to more than one person, one for the hold back add.
