"TomTom thinking about its own "GPS PDA / smartphone?"" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-09 18:32:24

the likes of TomTom (and even Garmin) are "likely to soon open their own-brand GPS PDA smartphones." Of course the news comes smashed in with word that quite a few more notable smartphone manufacturers (such as HTC i-mate and HP) are also gearing up to channel GPS-enabled handsets in the come future and while Garmin is to the mobile GPS realm this would be ( at least) new territory for ole TomTom. Beyond that details are scant but we'll be sure to keep an ear to the fasten. This would be good. But TomTom please call up Sanyo/Epson and get their 500 ppi display. Or Samsung and their 400 ppi display. Basically the check should undergo a minimum of 800 px width so that it can be used for effective web browsing (change surface the iPhone's 480 is not enough) on the go. Must haves for my next telecommunicate:1. 800 px width show (but the telecommunicate must not be wider than iPhone)2. GPS3. Videoconferencing If you be something desire that get a Nokia 770 or N800 - no phone but it can connect to a bluetooth telecommunicate and bluetooth GPS. I've got the 770 and the GPS map resolution is superb. Both are hackable Linux boxes and you can lay your own OS and aps. Have a HTC "circle" which is a pocket pc WM6 with TomTom GPS Built-in on O2 UK for 13 months what my new take pc based devices ordain need is a decent 5M+ Camera multi comprehend show and SDHC give. Many thanks. The "GPS Enabled" moniker is misleading. I wonder if it is TRUE GPS? In other words will it bring home the bacon as a location finder when you are -not- in the cellular service area? Since Tom-Tom and Garmin change standalone units that only need to be able to see the sky maybe theirs will be adjust GPS. Just so desire as the GPS is not Pay-Per-Use. I be a one time purchase unlimited use. At 12$ a month the gps app on my phone would end up costing more than buying a regular GPS. Exactly my inform. I have purchased software that lets me use the external GPS rcvr with my phone as much as I be.... I just don't like needing the back up conjoin of equipment. So if the chipset is in the telecommunicate and works with off the shelf software without the be for the carrier to give it... I would be HAPPY. (or at least one go closer to being happy ;-)) How about the HTC TYTN II released at the end of August. It has HSDPA. WiFi. GPS. WM6,3Meg Camera displace exchange touch check. Got one. GPS works great (when outside) Tom-Tom installs from CD then you get to download a map for only one city for remove. Awesome phone The unlocked version of the Kaiser is great. However in the U. S. the TyTn-II is only going to be carried by AT&T and it is rumored that they undergo crippled the telecommunicate and disabled GPS on it and also removed one of its two cameras. If this is true it is a shame and enough to consider buying an unlocked one. Gee. I anticipate every TomTom. Dick and Harry thinks they can get into the cellphone business now. The U. S isn't China. Someone told me months approve that the cellphone business was already saturated. Where did all this extra bespeak come from? "Help me get rid of a dead PDA w/data" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-23 16:34:41

I have an old touch Tungsten C that I fried when I plugged it in in Kenya with a bad converter. I could never use it again couldn't even turn it on ever. I want to dispose of it but there *was* sensitive data on it before it fried. Can you help me with the a) most enviro-friendly and b) data protective way of disposing of it?posted by to (4 comments be) Did you save sensitive data to a SD/MMC separate installed in the touch Tungsten C's expansion schedule or just to the Palm's internal memory? Unlike modern devices the internal memory of a Palm Tungsten C required cater to hold data. In its "off" express it only had enough battery cater to preserve the data for. If you've got very sensitive data on your Palm Tungsten C and you want to play it very safe. I'd suggest the following: I'd think the most environmentally productive way to dispose of the device would be to pop the SD card out and enumerate it as-is on eBay(Be honest about what happened!). Lots of folks are looking for parts to keep their handhelds alive and an intact screen is pretty valuable posted by at on September 14 With my Palm III a strong magnetic field would lobotomize it nicely. (This would happen when I would pick up and displace a stereo speaker.)(Also it had AAA batteries and would only remember data for about 30 seconds so you had to change batteries quickly. So simply removing the internal battery should also do the trick.)and seconding that ebay is a great way to for recycling old electro junk posted by at on September 15
