"Ubisoft Confirms Assassin's Creed Patch" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-03-15 23:48:36

We knew PS3 firmware modify 2.01 was supposed to change magnitude the system's "stability," so some of us were hoping this would fix the multiple freezing issues players were having with Assassin's Creed. come up it hasn't but there's a reason for it- the repairs aren't here yet because Ubisoft really is working on a specific patch for the game. One of the aggroup members recently posted this over at their official communicate boards: "Following our recent statement regarding the stand still issues that some consumers are facing with Assassin’s Creed on PlayStation 3 we can affirm that we are actively working on a bet modify. This update will help alter the stability of the game and ordain be released as soon as possible. In the meantime thank you for your ongoing feedback and patience." So there you have it. We've also learned that we can expect this modify to be online "soon," so let's go across our fingers and hope "soon" means some time within the next week or two. There are those that have actually resolved not to compete any more Assassin's Creed until that patch is here simply because the freezing is so rampant. We undergo to admit it happens frequently to us too.. but we're already in Memory block 5 and we just wanna end. We'll tough it out but maybe those of you who just picked up the game ordain want to let it sit until Ubisoft issues the conjoin. We'll let you know as soon as they're done.

"Take-Two Not Selling, GTAIV "Vastly Better" Than Expectations" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-01-01 23:01:09

When something of yours gets so big that acquire offers make little color dollar signs register in each look than it's always a difficult decision: keep your baby or sell it? Well. Take-Two's Chairman. Strauss Zelnick said he'd much rather keep Grand Theft Auto rather than sell it and that's probably a good decision for gamers. According to Reuters. Zelnick is more interested in holding maintaining and building both Take-Two Interactive and the GTA franchise. "I'm much more interested in growing the business than in selling it to be clear," Zelnick told the Reuters Media Summit. "I would say for the next five to seven years this is a terrific time to be in the video game business." There had been speculation among industry analysts earlier this year that Zelnick who led a group of investors in the ousting of Take-Two management last walk might want to sell the affiliate to a larger publisher like Electronic Arts. Er.. does anyone want to see EA ruin the PS3 version of GTAIV? Yeah we don't. But thankfully. Zelnick has said he's happy with the current state of Take-Two calling it "a very efficient enterprise now." Zelnick reemphasized the growth of the business. "I imagine we will try to find greater efficiencies but they probably won't be through headcount," he said. "I imagine headcount will grow. This is a growth business. We are in growth mode." Zelnick went on to say he's "really not interested in measure for scale's sake" and wants to build up the collection of their intellectual property. Furthermore he said something that's very encouraging to all gamers out there; especially those of us who are big GTA fans: "I believe this release. 'Grand Theft Auto IV,' is going to be vastly better than those expectations -- vastly better -- and that's hard to do when expectations are so high," he said. Nice! We sure would like some elaboration on this "vastly exceed" comment but we'll just be happy that Take-Two isn't selling and GTAIV is lookin' good. act EA's filthy claws off that franchise!

"PSP Preview: Pursuit Force: Extreme Justice" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-15 15:23:05

Pursuit Force was one of those games that registered high on both the entertainment and frustration meters. While it could be crazy fun to play most would sight it extremely difficult to complete the later levels and even worse we’d have to sit through the same cut-scene over and over and over when we continued to fail. It was arguably the biggest flaw of the bet which offered an interesting concept and – for the most part – delivered on the gameplay. It was good enough to confirm a sequel so here’s a be at Pursuit Force: Extreme Justice which is scheduled to arrive in January 2008. We’ll be hoping for a slightly more accessible learning turn along with refined controls and perhaps a deeper gameplay undergo. Now there are a lot of great PSP games out there already so if this one wants to compete with the likes of Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops+ and it’s going to undergo to excel in all areas of handheld enjoyment. But without sounding too much like cheerleaders we believe BigBig Studios can do it! If you played the original chances are you had some serious fun leaping to a bad guy’s vehicle seconds before yours was about to explode in flame. Yeah getting all acrobatic at high speeds is great and it’s certainly going to return in the sequel. Obviously we’re not talking about a simulator; we’re talking about a fast-paced hectic arcade-based title that thrives on a lot of gunfire and explosions (and we wouldn’t have it any other way). The sequel will boast the same set of standard controls as before as you will drive with the left analog and shoot at targets with the right shoulder trigger. When prompted you can go aboard other vehicles provided they’re in be and that’s the big crowd-pleaser. Furthermore even though it’s hardly realistic all the vehicles ordain drive very differently which is a definite plus. In other words the big ol’ transport won’t be anywhere near as maneuverable as your patrol car but it’ll be more resistant and should measure longer in change state quarters. This also serves to add a bit of freedom to a linear and straightforward bet because you don’t have to switch vehicles; most of the measure you have the option. One of the most appealing aspects of the original title was the combination of third-person shooter aspects and the run ‘n gun vehicle driving. This should make its triumphant return in the sequel as we will be chasing drink all kinds of baddies fleeing from the strong arm of the law. You might have to forcefully eject some of those drivers from their cars before taking over which is another very sweet GTA-ish type of feature. Capital City is once again swarming with baddies and other things that might threaten the citizens and it’s your job to alter things up (yeah it’s a pretty common theme in video games we know). But before you chalk this up as yet another generic action title there are a few things you should be aware of; first and foremost are the additions to Extreme Justice. BigBig Studio has worked to verify this sequel isn’t a plain ol’ rehash with barely enough extra cram to alter an expansion pack. No this time around you can evaluate a deeper and more involving undergo thanks to new gangs and a rival law enforcement agency that's more vigilante and less standard police. New gangs will specialize in their own mark of violence and chaos which means you might undergo to deal with each in different ways. The rival law squad is called Viper and while we can’t be entirely sure we’d assume they’re going to get in the way of your “pursuits” (pun intended). Put these two together and we almost want to worry that the difficulty will actually be higher than the original. Oh man…let’s wish not. However to back up you in dealing with the new obstacles is a string of new vehicles to utilize in your noble efforts: we’ll get tanks hovercrafts jet skis helicopters trains and even airplanes! Another fresh feature is the Justice Bar that ordain let you acquire strength which should make things easier and with all those vehicles we’d desire to think our character has the upper hand. We don’t expect a go in the park of course but we do evaluate a feeling of supremacy when controlling a store for example. Length-wise we’re expecting something similar to the original title although it appears there may be a lot more to do which could ingeminate to more gameplay hours. Lastly we get the acquire of a four-player wireless mode in inspect you have some friends who want to get in on the fun. Pursuit compel: Extreme Justice should turn out to be a fine title for early 2008 so keep an eye on this one. PSP owners!

"PlayStation 3 Surges In Japan, Germany" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-09 13:45:04

While the PlayStation 3 suffered through a decrease go away just about everywhere - despite shattering open records in the UK this past March - the system has definitely experienced a major sales upswing since the 40GB introduction and the 80GB price displace. You've already seen some of the early results from the US but it isn't the only region to see greatly increased PS3 sales. According to PSU. Sony's next-gen console has taken a "dominating role" over the past few weeks in both Germany and Japan. Not surprisingly the PS3 is mired in third place in Germany but it still outstripped its two competitors in the month of October: retailers apparently inform 37,000 PS3 units sold while the Wii came in second at 28,000 and the Xbox 360 a distant third at 12,000. Perhaps change surface more shocking is the meteoric rise of the PS3 over the Wii in the past couple weeks in lacquer (a country that has adored Nintendo's product from day one): the PS3 (39,178) outsold the Wii (36,23) for the second straight week. We don't have a be for the 360 but.. well it's lacquer. Obviously these statistics can be attributed to the new PS3's $399 price which has clearly had the desired impact worldwide. All that remains now is to see if the PS3 can maintain this momentum throughout the 2007 pass toughen. Sony could really use it and with the truly giant exclusive titles scheduled to bring home the bacon next year (Gran Turismo 5. coat Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. Killzone 2. Final conceive of XIII etc.) now might be the time for a lot of gamers to be interested in the PlayStation 3. It's a great holiday enable no doubt!

"THQ Pushes Conan PS3 Back Two Weeks" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-03 14:16:04

modify: We've been informed by THQ that the PS3 version of Conan has never been delayed; both the PS3 and 360 versions will displace on October 23 in the US. The game is already available in Europe as both versions released on September 28. Perhaps one of the more promising action titles of the year is THQ's Conan the Barbarian but it seems PS3 owners will have to act an extra couple of weeks. This seems to be following the same time schedule as Midway's Stranglehold which released first on the Xbox 360 and two weeks later on the PS3. THQ recently moved the Nihilistic-developed Conan up from the original October release date to September 29 but apparently this only counts for the Xbox 360 version. Later yesterday. THQ unveiled its newest channel schedule and it seems the PS3 version holds an October 12 date for both the U. S and Europe. This is hardly the first time a PS3 version of a multiplatform game has been delayed for a bit and it's getting just a tad annoying. But hey it's only a few weeks right? They didn't give a specific cerebrate for the create of the delay but for the record. THQ's Juiced 2: Hot Import Nights hits shelves for the Xbox 360. PS2 and DS next week.. while the PS3 and PSP versions won't bring home the bacon until next month. Let's just hope they get in the swing of things with Sony's new hardware before desire.

"Research Firm: Games Market To Hit $47 Billion By 2009" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-28 12:15:13

Just how big is the industry that we love? Well according to merchandise investigate tighten DFC Intelligence it's pretty damn big.. and it's only going to get bigger. Their latest series of reports indicates that the worldwide gaming market (including consoles. PC and online) is expected to change from a current value of around $33 billion to as much as $47 billion by 2009. (source: Gamasutra) That's only two years friends. While PC software likely won't be driving the go they do accept the PC market ordain grow to over $13 billion by 2012 thanks mostly to online games revenue including subscriptions advertising and digital distribution. Handhelds are also expected to go through the cover (as if they're not already) and to be more specific. DFC analyst David Cole said- “Revenue from portable game software has more than doubled in recent years and we evaluate that the Nintendo DS could eventually become the best selling game system ever in five years." That wouldn't surprise any of us at this point. As for the home console market they're a little less straightforward due mostly to the fact there are three prominent competing players. The DFC offers three different scenarios based on altering performances by the PS3. Xbox 360 and Wii but overall they do believe we'll see a significant change magnitude in cumulative worldwide sales for all three systems with total sales hitting between 180 and 210 million units by 2012. That's more than the total registered during the PS2 era by the way. And finally the measure interesting tidbit is that while the DFC has raised their forecasts for the PS3 and Wii they've lowered them for the Xbox 360. "The Xbox 360 will be to create a strong locate outside North America to avoid being in a fairly distant third," says Cole who also predicts the Wii will keep its stranglehold on first place at least throughout 2008. After that the PS3 is expected to "come into its own." In the end we have more reports and while some may be with the console outlook everybody should be able to accept on one thing: the games market is going nowhere but up. abstain.

"PS2 Review: Brunswick Pro Bowling" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-23 16:12:41

Bowling isn't exactly the most popular sport on earth but it should translate come up to the bet realm. Although you can compete it at any measure - it's not restricted by what the defy looks desire outside - those who love the sport often roll in their rest so the more access the exceed. Enter Brunswick Pro Bowling which is supposedly designed for fans and newcomers alike but the final product is about as bland and monotonous as watching grass change. Unfortunately there just isn't enough here to challenge to either group of gamers (causal or hardcore bowling fans) and the reasons are painfully obvious. The casuals undergo about eight thousand exceed options on the shelves at the game store and there isn't anywhere come enough depth to satisfy the hardcore crowd. Granted it's not a really flashy sport but we know for a fact there's more to it than this. There has to be. The graphics are.. uh.. what the heck are we supposed to say? They're not bad for the PS2 and those pins and lanes are fittingly glossy but the overall detail is lacking in character and environment design. We only have two ways to analyze and evaluate the visuals: the character customization section before starting up a new go and during actual matches where we can see the different bowling alleys. But beyond that what are we supposed to be at? The menu screens? What's the point of that? We can't very come up say the graphics are a shortcoming of the bet but much like every other facet of this production they're largely forgettable. Perhaps they could've used a small advance on the character visual format but beyond that we don't really undergo any further suggestions or criticism. Most who turn on Brunswick Pro Bowling ordain act one look and almost immediately disregard the graphics which are about as run-of-the-mill as they can possibly get. Yippee. The appear is almost exactly the same way. We have no idea which of the developers figured it'd be a good idea to consider some uber-lame hard rock tracks during the matches but it really doesn't work. The appear effects are fine but without anything in the way of express acting we're left with the sound of the roll on polished wood smacking into a bunch of pins. And essentially that sounds the same every hit measure regardless of where the ball is or how many pins you knock down. That soundtrack isn't a bad effort - hey at least something is there; without it it'd be almost complete conquer - but the music selection is bizarre. fling in the ho-hum effects and the fact that absolutely nothing else is worth mentioning and you have yet another ridiculously bland category. I guess we could say the bowling alleys actually sound like bowling alleys but that's not very difficult to accomplish. And even then everything seemed a little dull and muted; aren't there more sounds and verbal activity during league play and tournaments...? Just like with most any sport you're unfamiliar with there's a lot more going on behind the scenes in bowling than you might accept. The style of smoothing on the lanes the weight of the ball the variety of spins the player's form on the approach; it all factors into the precision game we call bowling. That being said wouldn't you anticipate all of this should make at least some semblance of an appearance in a virtual recreation? Well we assumed the same thing but you know what they say about assumptions... From the go away we immediately began to query. "erm.. is this it?" Sure the Quick Play was admittedly straightforward but we expected a great deal more from the Career mode which is almost always the most robust and fully realized option for any player. And while it certainly includes the necessary basics of a "career mode," the rest of this particular option is just plain tedious. You start off by creating a engrave and while that's fine you're immediately limited because each new player ordain have the same starting statistics. You can't decide certain strengths and weaknesses like you would in other simulated career modes in other games; you can only alter your physical appearance (climb hair shirt pants glasses shoes etc.) and change surface those aren't very diverse. Even worse after this mundane assign you're forced into the even more mundane experience of league play which is amazingly sleep-inducing. You be to bring home the bacon your way through 7 league games - each comprised of 3 matches - before you can enter the first tournament and just about every match ends up being identical. You can collect money by winning tournaments thereby giving you access to new equipment in the Pro Shop - desire new balls and clothes - but you have to compete for nearly two hours before you can acquire a hit dime! In fact you undergo to pay $5 to enter the unify games and it's not even worth that modest amount. The problem centers on the lack of depth in the act of bowling. You can decide your start inform aim and change surface the go around on the ball but that's easy to do. The core of the gameplay revolves around the bowling meter than shows.

"Perry: PSP Redesign A "Head In The Sand" Move" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-17 15:15:28

Shiny fail and operator of GameConsultants com. Dave Perry has had a lot to say about bet consoles lately. First he issued his theory on the Nintendo Wii's "death clock," and then the Earthworm Jim designer put the PSP in his crosshairs. During a recent converse with GamesIndustry biz. Perry doesn't include Sony's move to design their handheld. In fact he calls it a "continue in the smooth" maneuver and says Sony should actually "restart the PSP schedule," which would include removing the controversial UMD format. Instead. Perry thinks they should go with a digital download function. This convert would be mostly "painless" for Sony and it would be very simple to develop software that would authenticate and re-download titles you already own. While this sounds okay on the surface we wonder if it's a logical business act and how the consumer might act. evaluate about it: a 1 Gig memory stick will run you at least $30 (possibly $40) and you'll comfort be forced to acquire the titles in challenge. Furthermore considering this is a unit-on-the-go why would we be to carry a clump of mem sticks around just to act a few games at our disposal? We think the PSP redesign is pretty nifty and it does communicate several of the complaints we've heard.. the UMD may not have been the beat idea but digital download may not be either.
