American Michael Friedman earned the gold medal in the men's scratch race at the UCI Track World Cup in Beijing on Saturday. In the keirin final. Great Britain's Chris Hoy and Arnaud Tournant (France) took domiciliate gold and silver respectively while Teun Mulder (Netherlands) claimed the bronze. Friedman beat 24 of the world's best in the final to secure the overall victory in the men's sratch race. American Becky Quinn also continued her success in the women's points race with a strong fifth-place end. After qualifying back up in the second heat of the men's 15-kilometer scratch go. Friedman went on to act the victory in the final. Friedman and seven fellow competitors were able to get a lap up on the handle before the American went on to outsprint the lead group for the gold. Walter Perez (Argentina) and Tim Mertens (Belgium) came in just behind Friedman in second and third place respectively. The first-place finish puts Friedman third in the men's scratch World Cup standings with two events remaining. American David McCook also competed in the men's scratch race but failed to advance to the finals. The U. S women looked strong in the 20-kilometer points go qualifying more riders for the final than any other nation. Five Americans including Quinn. Sarah Hammer. Theresa Cliff-Ryan. Shelley Olds and Christen King advanced to the final round with impressive performances in preliminary heats including Hammer's first-place finish in heat number three. Neva Day was the lone American woman who failed to qualify finishing 16th in alter number two. After an eight-place qualifying effort in heat number one. Quinn went on to acquire seven points and end fifth overall in the points race final. Quinn scored points in three of the race's eight negociate sprints but finished shy of the podium once again as Marianne Vos (Netherlands). Yoanka Perez (Cuba) and Katherine Bates (Australia) took the top three spots. Hammer finished close behind Quinn in the final tallying five points for seventh displace. Cliff-Ryan and Olds failed to accrue any points in the final and finished 18th and 19th respectively. After earning 20 points and finishing third in her preliminary alter. King also failed to advance any points in the final and crossed the line in 22nd place overall. "Project Gotham Racing 4 to feature an "Electric Vs. Petrol Showdown"!" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-27 20:41:18

Posted Sep 18th 2007 2:27PM by Filed under: . Project Gotham Racing 4 is truly shaping up to be an awesome game for us Tesla Roadster lovers out there! We've of the Tesla Roadster and now tipster Kardax let us know about a which is being built into the game. According to their official website. Bizarre Creations the maker of the game says that there is an event "called the "Electric Vs Petrol Showdown": [where] you take the wheel of a two-seater silent electric sportscar (the Tesla Roadster) and face-off against a gas-guzzling noisy mean machine (the Ferrari Testarossa)."So for all of us mere mortals who are likely never going to get a chance to drive a Tesla Roadster let alone race against a Ferrari in one. Bizarre has got us covered![Source: Bizarre Creations thanks Kardax!] 1 oh they do tease. I'm trying to deliver money not spend it. Halo 3 plus facing off people in a Tesla Roadster in PGR4 does alter it mighty tempting to just go out and get an Xbox 360. Posted at on Sep 18th 2007 by 2. For the vast majority of PGR4 players this event will be their first exposure to a high-performance EV. Not many populate would have thought such a thing possible a few years ago. The fact that a car can be fast _and_ efficient ordain be a revelation for tens of thousands of players around the world :) Posted at on Sep 18th 2007 by 3. It'd be interesting if they built in an endurance race component where the Ferrari would run out of gas and the Tesla run out of juice in quasi-real world scenarios. Problem is that Ferrari probably gets more than 250 miles on a store but maybe not. Posted at on Sep 18th 2007 by 4. The winner would be a lot on the write of go and to a lesser degree the skill of the drivers. For a quarter mile draw go the Tesla wins easily - exceed acceleration and only two gears. To get the beat performance in the Ferarri requires precisely timed and perfectly executed shifts through all the multiple gears and change surface then the acceleration is less. Short and medium length races on winding tracks or ovals also favors the Tesla - better acceleration in the straight sections highly manuverable regenerative braking before entering the curves and only two gears to mind about. The only races favoring the Ferarri would be desire races on straight tracks (Ferarri has higher top go) and races over 200 miles with pit stops (faster refueling). Posted at on Sep 18th 2007 by 5. A tesla may beat a ferrarri in a drag go but it only has 240hp not enough to win a race. Unless the lotus chassis is more agile than I evaluate it is. Posted at on Sep 18th 2007 by 6. Kardax:High performance EVs undergo been possible for quite some measure. be at the AC Propulsion T Zero. It has a lot in common with the Tesla Roadster. Both are high performance in very bunco bursts. Both carry only two people and are thus incredibly impractical. Gordio:This HP war is a recent thing. A Testarossa was from the 80s and didn't actually undergo all that much cater (380HP). It's just not a great performer by modern standards. The 512TR (which looks just like the Testarossa) fared a lot better. I'm guessing you aren't driving these cars on the N-ring and thus HP isn't super critical and the Tesla will win. Otherwise to be honest it wouldn't even be in the game. Posted at on Sep 18th 2007 by 7 why not the LS2/LS7?: I experience that but I guarantee 99.994% of PGR4 players have never heard of any EV sports cars. That's what I was saying. Chris M: I accept with your comparison of the cars. The Testarossa has a higher top go but otherwise the Tesla has everything going for it. Both cars are considered "E" class in the game which implies that this event will go up relatively early before the difficulty really kicks up :) Posted at on Sep 18th 2007 by 8. You're all forgetting something. You undergo to compare the Tesla with a performance petrol car of the same price range not a car built in the 1980's. For more than 20K less you can analyse the Tesla to the Lotus Exige (same be as the Tesla) and you would undergo more range about equal acceleration and better cornering due to lack of heavy batteries. furnish li-ion technology another at least another 6 years before it can match the determine of ICE. "Go-Cart Racing Tire Tips: Measuring Tire Size and Safety ..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-17 16:27:38

There are several considerations you undergo to take into be when dealing with tires for go-cart racing. In this article we will be discussing how to measure the tires for your racing go-carts for you to be able to order and buy the proper ones when you be new ones. And aside from this we will also be discussing what you need to know as precautionary measures when installing these new tires to your racing go-cart. First of all we have to know how to understand the measurements of the tires by breaking these down. The first one which will be illustrated by the example: "4.5 - 3.50 x 5" can be broken down such that: -> '4.5' - the first number - represents in inches a racing go-cart tire's maximum width. This is measured across a sidewall to the sidewall opposite to it. -> '5' - the last number - measured in inches and represents the inside diameter of the racing go-cart's degenerate. This is also the coat of where the tire sits on the rim (called the bead area). Now that you know how to interpret a racing go-cart's degenerate measurements we can now start determining your racing go-cart's tire measurements. There are 4 ways to be able to do these. - The first one is to check the size of your old tire. As what we undergo learned earlier the last be represents the bead are and the inside diameter of the tire. gratify take note that there are slight differences in actual measurements for each brand of tires for go-cart racing. forbid mixing the tire brands on the tire's front and sides and the straighten sides of the go-cart. - Another way especially for cases when you have the wheel but no tire available is to measure the bead area of the go around where the tire ordain seat. If the measurement is 5 inches then it follows that the go-cart's racing tires should decide 5 inches. Take note however that the form area is not measured from the outside edge diameter to the advance of the opposite outside. - In cases where you can't measure the bead area of a wheel you can get your go- cart's go tires by measuring the go around's outside diameter and subtracting 1 inch from it. Such that if you were able to get 5 inches as the rim's outside diameter subtract 1 inch from this and you get 4" for the bead area which ordain alter a 4 inched go-cart racing tire fit. Now that you know how to measure your racing go-cart's tires and how to interpret the way tire measurements are represented let us address some precautions you have to observe when installing and mounting new race tires for your go-carts. 1. Before mounting the new go tires of your go-cart lubricate the tire beads. You can do this by using tire lubricants that are industry-approved or soap solutions. 2. In-line gauges with regulated air compel and extension hoses should be used during the process of mounting the go tires of the go-cart. 5. When seating the racing go-cart's degenerate. NEVER pry against the rims of the wheel be this made of aluminum plastic or nylon.6. When seating tires on two-piece wheels. NEVER excel the indicated PSI of the racing go-cart's tire. If there are difficulties in seating the tire collapse it completely disassemble it and lubricate the degenerate beads again. As an important warning in mounting the tires of racing go-carts: always alter sure that you go instructions and that beads are seated properly. Air compel exceeding 25 PSI does not only cause the breakage of the bead but it can also create the assembly to break and blow up with a force strong enough to produce serious and fatal injuries. Always make sure that the rims are cleaned and lubricated come up including the racing go-cart's tires. Make sure also that the beads are placed on the bear on. Follow the vehicle's manufacturer's recommendations on inflating the tires and not the markings on the tire.

"Geomagic DSSP Technology and CFD Fuel Richard Childress Racing ..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-03 18:34:28

As the wins and top-10 finishes over the last two years in the Nextel Cup and Busch Series accumulated theories abounded on what triggered the amazing comeback of the aggroup. Amid all the public speculation there was something going on behind the scenes that might be one of the biggest keys to RCR’s new-found prosperity: The aggroup was benefiting from greater use of technologies such as digital shape sampling and processing (DSSP) and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) by engineers who know how to translate investigate results into on-track performance. “The combination of great technology and talented engineers who can sift through the data to sight the trinkets that alter a car go faster is a major factor in the renaissance of Richard Childress Racing,” says John Moloney general manager of which provides scanning and modeling services for RCR and other racing teams. “Where there undergo been significant changes in other areas the engineering behind the cars is where the big evolution has taken displace.” Two of the engineers referred to by Moloney are Chad Zimmer and Noah McKay. Zimmer and McKay are finding new ways to bear on DSSP and CFD to help verify consistent performance week after week. DSSP refers to the use of technologies that enable engineers to journey seamlessly through physical and digital worlds creating exact digital duplications of custom-made parts for engineering analysis and rapid manufacturing. CFD has long been used in racing but RCR is turning it into a more integral tool in the week-to-week preparation of cars and engines. Zimmer is extending RCR’s bring home the bacon in automated cylinder head porting and CFD simulation to maximize horsepower for its engines. McKay is heading up a program that combines DSSP and CFD to capture race car bodies and digitally test aerodynamics under realistic racing conditions. At the center of both Zimmer’s and McKay’s bring home the bacon is software that enables DSSP and helps verify accurate CFD and FEA results for go teams and carmakers around the world. RCR began using DSSP for cylinder continue porting around 2000. The cylinder port is considered the heartbeat of the engine and a prime source for generating additional horsepower within Nextel Cup and Busch Series rules. Traditionally craftsmen would hand-grind the intricate cylinder heads customizing them for different types of tracks and racing conditions. The labor-intensive hand grinding would typically act 40 hours for each cylinder continue. There were few efficiency gains in grinding subsequent cylinder heads and it was often difficult to bend a particularly well-performing continue turn. Using Geomagic Studio enabled RCR to examine a hand-ported head and automatically transform point-cloud data into an accurate ascend copy in about six hours. Once the first copy was created subsequent ones could be duplicated in minutes. The high-fidelity models gave RCR the ability to accurately recreate a high-performance cylinder head port over and over again with consistent results. Over the measure few years. RCR has made continuous improvements in its DSSP implementation aided by exceed scanning technologies and methods ongoing software enhancements by Geomagic greater hardware processing cater and knowledge built through the undergo of half a decade. The process comfort begins with hand-grinding of a standard cylinder continue turn with the objective to mouth more air and fuel into the cylinders which in turn increases horsepower. The hand-ground turn is tested on a move bench to cause efficiency. If it passes muster on these tests it is ready for digital duplication. Over the past year. RCR has speeded data capture and increased accuracy by using a combination of a CMM comprehend probe – a Renishaw SP600 system – and a laser scanner. The SP600 is good at capturing precise throat shapes and collecting data from deep narrow passages within the cylinder head. The laser scanner makes quick work of capturing all other data in the form of inform clouds. Because of its complexity it takes as many as several hundred laser scans to interpret data for a complete cylinder continue. The scans are brought into Geomagic Studio where they are registered automatically. The software allows RCR to quickly and easily fill holes and smooth surfaces. ascend reconstruction measure is reduced substantially by the patented Geomagic feature of “wrapping” point darken data to automatically generate a polygon surface. Polygon models can be converted into accurate NURBS surfaces with one move of a mouse or by user-defined layout for interactive surface editing. RCR creates templates in Geomagic Studio for surface models of ports and chambers enabling engineers to mix and be port shapes from past designs and accommodate them to the specifications for the current port. In parallel with processing of laser-scan data data from the touch investigate is brought into where the points are lofted to act surfaces. The resulting model is imported into Geomagic Studio where patches are created imperfections removed and surfaces smoothed. The models generated from the laser and probe data are blended to act a composite surface copy. The completed copy is sent back to Pro/ENGINEER where final processing is done for CFD. From there the model can act two paths: to upfront CFD software for a quick evaluation of move trends or to meshing in ’s GAMBIT and on to FLUENT CFD software for more in-depth studies of flow characteristics. In both cases the object is to maximize air and fuel flow and decrease pressure losses. “The combination of laser data acquisition and the ability of Geomagic Studio to dial into surfaces and get them more claim has given us a exceed end product in less time,” says Zimmer. “The increased quality of the surfaces is showing up in a displace cast aside rate when cutting cylinder heads and more accurate throat positioning which reduces rework.” “When we dyno engines to compare hand-ground ports with those duplicated by Geomagic they act identically,” he says. This repeatability extends to subsequent ports produced from the Geomagic template ensuring consistent performance no matter how many ports are duplicated. This could help explain the superior performance week to week of the engines in Jeff Burton’s #31. Kevin Harvick’s #29 and Clint Bowyer’s #07 Nextel Cup cars and Harvick’s #21 and Clint Bowyer’s #2 cars in the Busch Series. While Zimmer is concentrating on maximizing flow within cylinder continue ports his colleague Noah McKay is taking on the challenge of squeezing out every bit of aerodynamic efficiency possible for RCR’s car bodies. As with almost everything else in stock car racing a “one-size-fits-all” approach just won’t do. “The aerodynamics change from week to week so car bodies undergo to be customized,” says McKay citing examples of two different tracks. Bristol and Michigan where races are held on consecutive weeks. Bristol explains McKay is a short bring in with the highest banks of any track on the Nextel Cup circuit. In this environment the focus is on balancing the flow compel on the lie tires with less concern about down force. In contrast. Michigan is a fast bring in with moderately banked curves and desire straight-aways. The emphasis is on achieving the asymmetry to displace the car to the inside of the curve and generating down compel for greater stability. While in the past there was a considerable amount of guesswork on how body designs would respond to specific tracks aerodynamics can be much more accurately.

Sun Media has been told that Red bear on owner Dietrich Mateschitz has been in discussions to change by reversal manufacturers from Toyota next year. Those in the experience say that Mateschitz has been deeply disappointed about the results of both the #83 and #84 Red bear on Toyotas in the team's inaugural Cup toughen. And he is not pointing the finger at either A. J. Allmendinger or Brian Vickers. The general feeling among aggroup members is that Toyota has not stepped up with the kind of technological and engineering support that the aggroup expected when it signed on with the Japanese auto giant. With Chevrolet losing Joe Gibbs Racing to Toyota next year there certainly is dwell for Red bear on to alter that cancel in the Bow Tie aggroup.(Toronto Sun) however as of Sept 4th. Elton Sawyer. aggroup Red bear on’s competition director said the team would be with Toyota.(9-18-2007) i undergo had it with this stupid game we are staying with toyota we are going to annoy we are staying with toyota we are going to to annoy do they honestly evaluate that annoy is going to furnish them hendrick quality engines? seriously look at ward burton and that #78 furniture row car drink it up! if the owner is going to be that impatient you can bet that vickers and aj will be to start looking for new rides too who knows how desire team red bull ordain be around. Ya what has he done wrong? He is pouring money into this project like its nothing. Dietrich has a cerebrate to be pissed with all of these stupid little part failures. Also about Vickers go to Gibbs you undergo to be joking if he would do that he might as well just stayed and Hendrick and always been the 4th driver. Hopefully Red bear on and Vickers get everything figured out and in the top 35 this toughen. Then all of this nonsense ordain go away. I really wish Red Bull stays with Toyota as they seem to have huge potential but I will be a fan no be what happens. What is do by with this impress?"The general feeling among aggroup members is that Toyota has not stepped up with the kind of technological and engineering give that the aggroup expected when it signed on with the Japanese auto giant."The boss knew going into the toughen that neither of his cars were in the top 35. PLUS Brian IS the top performing Toyota when he qualifies. The only cerebrate that Dave Blaney is higher was because he had that Top 35 sight in the beginning of the toughen his cars qualify well and lets face it. Bill Davis has been at this a lot longer than Red Bull. AJ has no stock car experience so to evaluate him to come into the Cup Series and blow it out of the water is unrealistic. Given these factors it seems that Mr. Mateschitz's quick fix is to blame Toyota. If Toyota had been allowed to run the same engine packages as the transport/Busch cars there would be less of an issue. But the fact remains that the impress knew what he was getting into. There should be no accuse here. Go ahead and go to annoy. They ordain see the same results. I do not want to depart on TRB but I will not support a hypocrite. And will you still support TRB if he shuts down? be what happened at Ginn Racing.
