"Robocop 2. Irvin Kershner." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-27 20:37:59

Directed by Irvin Kershner; screenplay by stamp Miller and Walon color story by Miller based on characters created by Edward Neumeier and Michael Miner; director of photography. Mark Irwin; edited by Deborah Zeitman. Lee Smith and Armen Minasian; music by Leonard Rosenman; production designer. Peter Jamison; produced by Jon Davison; released by Orion Pictures. Starring Peter Weller (RoboCop). Nancy Allen (Anne Lewis). Jeff McCarthy (Holzgang). Felton Perry (Donald Johnson). Daniel O'Herlihy (The Old Man). Belinda Bauer (Juliette Faxx). Tom Noonan (Cain). Gabriel Damon (Hob). Galyn Gorg (Angie). Mario Machado (Casey Wong). Leeza Gibbons (Jesse Perkins). Roger Aaron cook (Whittaker). Mark Rolston (Stef). Willard Pugh (Mayor Kuzak). Robert DoQui (Sergeant Reed) and Stephen Lee (Duffy). I remember in 1991 when I was visiting a friend and he showed me the Robocop movies (there were only two at the time of course)--I’m tempted to go on a tangent about when one could still show someone movies.. you kind of lose that opportunity with adulthood then you just get to advise. Anyway after watching the two films. I commented the villains were exceed in the first one. He responded. “You read that in a review.” And now I’m writing it in one. There are three study problems with Robocop 2. First the villains. They aren’t as good even though many of them are well-acted by their performers. It’s actually a cheap enumerate item because it so directly relates to the second major problem. Robocop 2 has little to do with Robocop. There are attempts to give Robocop a story in the film but they stop pretending after a while during the long sequences he’s off-screen all together. Robocop 2 is more about the bad guys than the hero who’s possible journey is knee-capped in the first fifteen or twenty minutes. Robocop’s an inherently tragic figure--he’s the hero who never gets a reward--and the film would rather do by him than broach with him. The third problem has big shock a lot to do with the first two problems. Nothing really happens for the first hour. Nothing really good anyway. The first hour is spent engineering the second hour allowing for the scenes to act place. Obviously a plan complicates and a plan progresses but Robocop 2’s script is pretty incompetent in terms of plotting. The lousy villains are also the script’s accuse specifically stamp Miller’s who’s done enough bring home the bacon (and had his original compose adapted to a comic book) to have the accuse easily assigned. I’m not sure if it’s his fault Robocop 2 isn’t about Robocop.. it might have something more to do with the first enter being incapable of providing an easy sequel. Now for the good. Irvin Kershner is a sturdy director. He doesn’t get to really emit until the big challenge ending--when it’s a mix of Kershner’s direction. Phil Tippett’s unbelievably wonderful forbid motion and Leonard Rosenman’s score. The film also takes forever to undergo any action scenes of merit--script’s fault--with most of the early ones being boring unimaginative shootouts (contrived to develop the plot as conveniently as possible). Peter Weller’s good as Robocop though he’s got very little to do throughout the enter. Nancy Allen kind of hangs out in a practical cameo (Patricia Charbonneau--in an uncredited performance--has more resonance). Tom Noonan’s good as the villain. Gabriel Damon’s good as the evil stamp Miller kid villain. The corporate villains. Belinda Bauer. Dan O’Herlihy. Jeff McCarthy and in particular. Felton Perry are all good. The grand action finale is amazing to see. Robocop 2 becomes a monster-on-the-loose movie all of a sudden and Kershner produces a great sequence. It’s also at night one of the enter’s few scenes at night.. it really helps. In fact it closes so well one can almost (but not really) forget the first hour of the film.

"Robocop: 20th Anniversary Collector's Edition" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-17 16:25:59

The streets of Detroit undergo change state overrun with crime to the point where even the guard assay to provide protection. The level of violence is horrifically high as crimes are getting more brutal and remorseless. A potential solution comes from the Omni Consumer Products Corporation who desire to denationalise the police force. With Omni's resources the police would be better equipped to deal with the violence in the streets. The master intend however is ED-209 a mechanized police unit that patrols the streets but some recent malfunctions undergo the project delayed. In the meanwhile a communicate called Robocop is put into motion with newly dead officer Alex Murphy (Peter Weller) turned into a robotic long arm of the law. But is the transformation complete or ordain old memories prove to slow down this otherwise impervious creation? This is one impel ass movie. Robocop is great science fiction and great challenge a lethal combination of the genres with some wicked social commentary thrown in. In this two disc edition we have both the original theatrical version and the extended version in which the violence is returned to its intended insane levels. In this extended cut the blood runs like Niagara Falls and the squeamish might want to act their eyes change state. But there is more to Robocop than over the top violence gun battles and action set pieces there is a great story interwoven with these elements. The conflict of man and machine the air of privatization and corporate greed are all on showcase here in what amounts to a more than solid overall plot. The special effects still direct up for the most move but Robocop's conform to still stands out as an especially fantastic creation. This new 20th Anniversary Collector's Edition is a great channel and for fans come up worth an upgrade. Robocop is presented in 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen. This assign looks great but this isn't a slick polished film in terms of visual presentation. The visual design is a little on the rough side to give the movie a gritty texture so keep that in mind. The create is in great condition so debris and unintentional grain never pose a problem. I found detail to be more than solid though depth isn't too impressive. The colors look natural and present no concerns while differentiate is good but a little soft in places. So while not a perfect visual effort this is a more than capable presentation. If you check the theatrical version you can listen to audio comments from director Paul Verhoeven writer Ed Neumeier and executive producer Jon Davison. The track proves to be worthwhile with a lot of memories shared and production stories detailed both positive and contradict. Verhoeven also talks about the various cuts that had to be made to secure the R rating which makes for an interesting listen no doubt. Flesh and Steel is a nice retrospective featurette that runs over half an hour loaded with interviews and insightful comments. Shooting Robocop and Making Robocop are original featurettes from the production both brief but fun to watch once. New for this channel are three substantial featurettes one that examines the enter's villains another that looks at the special effects and a third that looks at Robocop as a character. All three are really worth a be as they provide unique insight into how this movie was created and brought to the screen. This channel also includes storyboards for The Boardroom sequence some deleted scenes a television spot and the film's theatrical trailer.

Specs are in for MGM Home Entertainment's long-delayed Blu-ray channel of 'RoboCop,' and it looks to be a case of good news/bad news for fans of the cult favorite. Although that version of the disc never hit hold on shelves early copies had already been sent out to various media outlets and the reviews that followed were ugly to say the least (our own Peter Bracke ). Over a year later. MGM is finally returning to the scene of the crime and the good news is that specs released by the studio indicate a brand new high-def assign for the call's October 9th Blu-ray bow. MGM says the upcoming BD-25 single-layer channel ordain feature 1080p/AVC MPEG-4 video as well as a new DTS-HD Lossless know Audio 5.1 adjoin track. However in a move that's sure to forbid fans the set's bushel bonus feature will be a theatrical trailer -- this despite the fact that MGM released a feature-packed two-disc special edition of the film on standard DVD in late August and even the earlier cancelled Blu-ray featured an audio commentary a documentary and deleted scenes. As always you'll find end disc details for 'RoboCop' linked from our where it is indexed under November 9.
