"connecting a laptop to pc" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-09 18:28:11

Hi how do i go about connecting my laptop(vista Home basic) to my main pc(XP home)i dont have a router and the main pc is isnt wirelessi dont have a printer turn on the laptop all i undergo is lan cables how do i go about this?any help appreciaetdthanks If you undergo an ethernet port on both pcs then get an ethernet crossover telecommunicate and plug it in to each pc. This is far the easiest and cheapest solution. Then go to network connections and go the instructions for setting up a domiciliate communicate; choose from the left hand pane. Alternatively you can do this with the serial port agree turn (printer) infra red or USB ports. In each case (object IR) you will be a special telecommunicate. You need a crossover for USB and serial and a fully wired (all 25 pins)straight through for the agree it's really your choice. Don't be tempted by usb networking devices; they are not yet Vista compatible. thanks for that!i undergo cable here but after a examine on net i discovered its a straight thru waiting on an adapter coming affix again if you need help setting it up. The crossover ensures that the output from one pc is connected to the enter on the other; the ins and outs are of course on the same pins on both pcs so connecting pin 6 to pin 6 would be connecting create to create. ok i got the crossover telecommunicate and have set up internet sharing i can connect the laptop(vista domiciliate basic) to net thru the main pc(xp moe service case 2) Both pc's undergo different workgroup names and i undergo forgot how to change them! Im not bad on puters but new to networking. What do i have to do now so i can overlap files betwen pc and laptop i be to be able to access both from either one?thanks again for help. "Shared wireless with PC" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-03 14:31:25

I have seen 2 setups with a wireless PC laptop and a Wireless MAC. The wireless is set up with WEP encryption. In both cases once the MAC is on for 15mins or so the PC will lose the wireless connection. I undergo told them to regenerate the router becasue it might be bad but the same thing happened. Do i need to change the security encryption to allow both PC and MAC use the same wireless router? Advertisements do not imply our endorsement of that product or service. All times are GMT -4. "I have a iMac and Two PC Laptops. Airport Router or Linksys Router ..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-28 12:28:09

I thoroughly recommend the Airport Extreme. I've had far less problems with both my macs and PC's since changing over (from a Netgear) the Airport plough works well plus you get the added advantage of simple WDS using an Airport Express to extend your network. I'm not going to argue about Netgear routers (one cerebrate I changed) but in relation to the original question I was reporting my good undergo with the Airport. And re EdMaurer's mention there's been absolutely no pain on either the Windows or Mac align. I would go Linksys just create it's like half the price and it gives you a lot of options for customization (if you're into that ;)) I myself use mostly wired routers and use the Fonera (from the Fon initiative ) to fasten up my wireless clients. Doesn't give you a giant open communicate but for 40$ you get one of the best wireless find points I've ever seen.

I have a special situation and there may not be anything that can be done but I'm willing to try. I have a Wireless-B router with a WPC11v4 wireless card. My PC is broken and I'm trying to use my old laptop while getting the PC fixed. I can't cerebrate the ethernet cable it doesn't work on the laptop. Laptop has XP but its really messed up won't allow me to uninstall-reinstall windows (reason it is only a last-resort comp). Anyway. I had a password on the router so no one else could take my internet. I enter the password and it connects to the router but cannot sight the internet. I don't experience what settings I used for the router from the PC so I don't experience what to do. I reinstalled the card's software and I comfort get the same thing. Try to communicate the manufacturer of the Router & check that its running with latest  'Firmware' if not grade it which normally solves the wireless connection air.. The router is a Linksys Wireless-B. forgive my ignorance but what is firmware? Can I get it on the Linksys site? Thanks for responding!

I am able to identify their mac addresses via the router settings and things so im thinking there would be some application out there somebody could advise? Thanks for any help anyone can give It does have that feature. How do i use that? Can anybody enjoin me to a site where i can learn what commands to enter in the QoS area please I'd go away with the user's manual for the router.
