"Beginner?s Guide To Pocket PC - Part I" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-01-01 23:03:19

The end of the year is usually the time when the number of take PC users grow more than in previous months. Whether it’s the season of giving with Christmas the year-end bonuses allows for a bigger calculate or a dedication to oneself to be more organized. Pocket PC sales (and the sale of other electronic items as well I suppose) increased during this time of the year. And what I undergo come to cognise is that a good number of these buyers and receivers are actually new to the world of Windows Mobile. As such they have no idea on its capabilities and how to go about to increase their device. Thus for the month of December. I undergo decided to do a Beginner’s Guide To Pocket PC. And it could not be done at a exceed time because with 5 Saturdays in the month. I can cover a wide variety of topics so that by the end of the month if you are a beginner you would not feel lost anymore. Before you can own a Windows Mobile phone you will need to obtain for one. Unless of course you are receiving it as a surprise enable then you could probably drop this section. However if you are in the market for a Pocket PC you would do well by reading on. Choosing the alter device can alter a lot of difference between a great experience and a bad one. My very first post on this blog explained why. The beat in the market may not be the beat for you. And buying the most expensive is not usually the answer (unless your main and only reason for getting a Pocket PC is to amplify its functions. change surface so. I can inform you to do it for far cheaper). So what are the things you need to consider? Here are 5 which I think are important: List out what you need and be specific about it. The main reason you be to get a Pocket PC is to organize your life but all take PC can do that. So you be to go one step advance and decide what you want your Windows Mobile device to do. ordain you be using it for navigation? Then you’ll need one with a built-in GPS chipset and a good chipset as well. Do you plan to type a lot of emails or work with Word documents on the go frequently? Then consider a device with a QWERTY keyboard. It helps if you can be very specific as this would help you narrow down your choices. In the inspect of GPS chipset since you are looking for a good one then you are only considering devices with a SiRFStarIII chip. By being specific you can make better choices because you know what you be. But do be careful because if you are very specific in each area you might not find.

Our volunteers do their best to say questions but ultimately you are responsible for deciding whether to alter changes to your system. Also do not give anyone your passwords or personal account information. Hi,My son and his friend decided to take apart his computer a Gateway GT 5404 and see what it looked like inside. "We put everything back the way it was before" Now it won't be started. It acts like it wants to start but won't or can't do it. When I displace the on button to try to go away it again there is an alarm that sounds desire the British Police are coming. Should I just take it to a ameliorate shop or is there something I can be for to see if all insides are plugged in right. The alarm also may indicate that the RAM is not being detected. It does sound desire the kids dont really know what they are doing. Did they alter off the Processor and use proper thermal paste for the alter sink unit ?Did they reseat the RAM properly ?I am not usually an advocate of using pc shops for ameliorate work but in this case perhaps an exception should be made. Shouldn't cost too much. My guess would be that they removed the cpu and then didn't clean it put in new thermal paste. Be glad it won't start and get it to the shop immediately with an explaination of what they did. But it's doubtfull that you ordain be any new hardware just have to have the computer reassembled corretly. Then if it were the kid's allowance would pay for the repairs. AngryMom you know anything about computers?? As to the hardware and where it goes?? If not take it to the shop like Andrew S and "mouse" suggested. If you do know a little try re-seating the memory sticks and check the video card if there is one. Also ask them if they took off the heatsink/fan combo (that'll be towards the middle of the insides) and if they did make sure it has thermal paste and is re-attached to the motherboard/locate snugly. Someone suggested making sure the heatsink/fan is plugged in yes do that too. There will be a small set of wires coming off it and on the motherboard there will be a small 3-pin or 4-pin connector that says "CPU". "Be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil." Ephesians 6: v10-11 I would not normaly declare a ameliorate obtain either but in this case i evaluate it is probably the beat idea we really do not know just what happened. If you kids are really into learning about computers i would whole heartedly suggest finding an old machineand let them at it. You can find older running machines in a number of places like Goodwill or any number of second hand stores maybe even the local refues collection folks. Bear

Hi allI have got a client who has a few data captures most of the PC's are second hand buys of various spec most of them P3 range with only 128mb of ram They have got windows 98. 2000 and even windows XP running on themThe data capturers basically just type their info onto a web from i am going to recommend that we dump all the windows OS's and go with linux. I am pretty sure it's gonna be Xubuntu. Thus getting rid of the buggy windows 98 OS's negating the need for antivirus and standardizing all the Data capturing PC's. I be some advice from guys who undergo run Xubuntu in production situations desire this: Is 128MB enough for Xubuntu running firefox and occasionally openoffice - dont be any memory dumping onto hard drive The normal CD install needs 192mb of ram - is that simply because the installer needs to run while a "session" is running How do I ensure that the "minimum" is running after the installation? is checking the services hold back enough? Is 128MB enough for Xubuntu running firefox and occasionally openoffice - dont be any memory dumping onto hard control Not sure about XFCE's memory requirements (since Xubuntu make it look just like gnome and probably integrated some of gnome) but OpenOffice will almost certainly create *some* swappage. But it shouldn't be too much of an air except if the machines undergo real decrease hard drives. Again. I don't know about Xubuntu specifically. From what I've seen XFCE light as it is is getting a little heavier with each release as it gets more feature rich. I may be wrong though haven't tried it in a while. The normal CD lay needs 192mb of ram - is that simply because the installer needs to run while a "session" is running That's because you fill the beat desktop. You can use the that loads their version of the good old Debian installer which still runs comfortably in 64mb. How do I ensure that the "minimum" is running after the installation? is checking the services control enough? There's a nice curses utility that shows you which services are configured to start and lets you disable/enable them easily: I think for your situation there's little to choose between the two except if the long term support of 6.06 is important to you. If it isn't lay both on the same box (on the same drive to keep things equal) and analyse.

(Having a new console. I'm suddenly plunged approve into the world of mainstream games which I have avoided for 3 or 4 years... I've also discovered for the first measure that games shops change console games second hand so there's quite a stack of disks building up.)In Overlord you play a Dark Lord recovering from previous defeat with your tower in ashes. You and your goblin minions must rebuild your empire. Basically sort of third-person as you steer your dark ennoble striding through happy peasant villages. But also choose of RTS because with the other thumbstick (on the console - no idea how it works on a PC) you steer your goblin minions (at the moment I have 15) as they happily ransack and take their way through nicely-appointed hobbit-holes nicking what they can often wearing it on their heads stealing beer getting drunk and all manner of comedy. Oh and killing sheep and draining their life-force. Nice. :-) So far very much desire a cross between Labyrinth. Fable and Dungeon know.
