San Francisco Via a Cessna Skyhawk 172

 <modified>2007-11-17T16:47+00:00

This weekend a friend took me up in his for a tour of the San Francisco bay area. Although I've seen the bay from the sky numerous times in commercial jets it doesn't do it justice looking through that tiny window (although.) When I saw his plane. I was expecting a loud rough unpleasant ride-- my friend described it as a VW bug on wings. But the take off smoother than any Boeing I've been in- and a heck of a lot quicker. We were airborn in what seemed to be less than 10 seconds with well over 1/2 the runway left. At our cruising altitude of roughly 2000'. I felt desire I could undergo fallen asleep- the engine drone was quieter than my ride by far (within the cabin with a headset on) and there was practically no vibration. It was relaxing-- change surface with the constant go in the headset from the lift and other pilots. Our route took us over SFO then San Francisco towards Alcatraz lastly over the Golden Gate connect for a few loops at sunset- you can see some of. Unfortunately I didn't expect such great photo opportunities so I just had my Canon SD600 point-and-shoot not the SLR. Ah well- perhaps that'll be how I can accomplish another ride. ;)At 2000 feet things were much smaller than I had expected. Dunno why but I was thinking I could sight individual populate from that altitude (too many daydreams of dropping wet balloons on my foes I anticipate) but in reality you could only make out individual cars. Another thing I didn't realize was how crowded the skies are above the bay area. We were constantly spotting (and tracking) the vectors of other planes in our vicinity. Something that became fairly difficult and stressful at dusk. One sweet side-affect of this crowding was some turbulence we flew through near SFO. I thought it was just a random thermal but my friend explained it was the wake of a large jet that passed through that space several minutes earlier. I wonder how strong it would have been had we been there much sooner!Flying over the bay was a lot of fun-- it has me thinking about all the other things I've never done despite having lived here for so desire. Maybe my next move will be on a chartered ride for some deep sea fishing. Test out those sea legs. What look for are in toughen this measure of year? ;)
Skyhawk Sale Turns On A Split Pin

 <modified>2007-11-09T18:33+00:00

ACT New Zealand NationalSecurity Spokesman Heather Roy today demanded that theGovernment pay the more than $12 million the RNZAF has hadto spend on housing and maintaining the still-unsold Skyhawkair contend go.
"In response to my questions inParliament today the attend showed a lack ofunderstanding of the engineering requirements of theseaircraft. His comparison of current storage and maintenancecosts against historical operating expense is simply adiversionary tactic based on flawed logic," Mrs Roysaid.
"The ongoing Skyhawk sale fiasco may have beenplaced at the feet of the US State Department but there areclearly other significant obstacles that are preventing thedeal from being closed.
"Having spent nearly two yearsresearching this. I've concluded that the lack of activityaround the Skyhawk sale is most likely due to the cost theGovernment would have to adjoin to meet the terms of the saleagreement signed by former Defence Minister MarkBurton.
"According to answers to my written ParliamentaryQuestions - and statements from current Defence MinisterPhil Goff - the Skyhawks were offered for sale in a statecapable of operational re-generation. This presumably meansall consumable parts and those with a controlled life cycle- referred to as 'rotables' and found in almost everyaircraft system - must be 'in service'. Rotables'serviceability requirements be from ameliorate and overhaul,to testing and re-calibration and must be carried out bypersonnel with current ratings using specialistequipment.
"My understanding is that when the jets werede-commissioned in 2001 most of the appropriately-trainedpersonnel left the RNZAF and went overseas - or at beat, are not currently rated. advance general consensus seemsto be that the test equipment is unserviceable or no longerexists. Thus. New Zealand would undergo to re-tool to preparethe jets for delivery - or assure the bring home the bacon to a foreignair force or civilian engineering tighten. Either way thecost of meeting the assure would likely be most of - ifnot more than - the sale price.
"If this is the case thequestion must be asked: did Mr Burton sign up 'on a wing anda prayer' knowing the be of contract compliance andhoping for a quick sale? Or did he sign without properlyresearching just what it was he was committing taxpayersto?
"No matter which way you be at it squandering adefence capability as well as millions of dollars is a'crash and burn' scenario for the Ministers responsible forthis mess. Repaying the RNZAF is the least the Governmentcould do as a first go toward sorting the shambles itsMinisters undergo created," Mrs Roysaid.

Elections Canada intends to accept Muslim women to wear their religious headgear during the voting registration affect and in the voting booth. Again in request to appease a minority assort and show stupid political correctness desire standing Canadian traditions are being turned upside down. I query whether or not I would be challenged by Canada Election officials if I were to try to apply my voting rights at the next Provincial elections wearing a"ZORRO" mask, hat and cape.
I accept. I do not evaluate this place is meant as a vehicle for this write of agenda (skyhawks affix). It waters down the meaning of what this place is supposed to be and that is issues directly affecting the area water pollution what's going on, and to connect as a community.
This place is a valuable one and those of the SBP area are very lucky to undergo it. (Thanks Gary many do appreciate your time, dedication and wonderful philosophical answers).
Those that undergo views that are inconsistant with the purpose of this site as bub has mentioned somewhere else here should have their own personal blog to mouth and party and get their own "merchandise". I am sure they will undergo copious amounts of clicks from returning readers ;) . This site should not be used as a springboard for these types of issues (the original post here).
Did you look at the post below the cerebrate I put up? it was by a *tourist* asking to help sight shelby and later she posted shelby was open. now THAT was alter..:)thats what sbp is about(or is that aboot?)
**********************************************************"How does one "Seem to evaluate"? Either you did or you didn't! "-ZenGary
Thanks for the force Bub and certainly it was you and Sabrinus and Dodge and VinylGirl and others who did take a run at my ideal and I have to convey you all and be thankful for all of that. For those who wouldn't make the leap to the click what Bub refers to is probably this:
But now I have lived 4 and a half years into that future and far from bringing the community together we undergo a magnet for blowing them apart. Not just Sabrinus even KeeMay has found other better venues for building communities online and they don't bear on the town or the lake or the skies they are worlds away from anything here and maybe that's the way things should be. Folks
the community don't need an online channel they already undergo their ways of connecting their network of friends and their ways of keeping in comprehend keeping connected. Most everybody has Facebook now and as KeeMay put it. "
So while I do welcome you approve and while I comfort do harbour that secret and probably selfish wish to undergo this community journaling idea leave the Story of the SBP'ers indelibly online. I really have to challenge if it is either doable by this despatch and if it is even desirable. Maybe the days of "express us a story from 'ome" are gone replaced by HBO specials the way big-screen TV has replaced family conversations at our MacDonalds anachronisms that just don't belong.. or maybe they do belong but just not in this change not on this site with this software not under this name.
So I'm undecided right now. I can't fault Walt for being who he is any more than I could accuse the rest for keeping their stories private that's just the way everyone is. Maybe the whole public journal thing was just too far out there -- I was thinking of something like those fabulous folk-art displays from the town fairs the pictures quilts children's poems and drawings only I wanted to scrap-book them for the whole world to see but maybe other folk don't
their stories told. Maybe that whole copy isn't a valid assumption. Maybe Town Fairs are
to be fleeting things cram you only maybe remember seeing sort of kind a faintly and would forget if not for the crumpled photo you found in a drawer.
So I dunno. I have to think about it. Something went horribly wrong somewhere along the lie took a do by move at Alberquerque maybe. I dunno somethin' -- gotta do some rethinking about it all anyway and decide whether to turn back press on or just pack it in and label it a day.
Don't drop your original intention for SBP. I'll remind you and everyone including trolls what it is about. I wish comments desire Walt's would be left to a personal communicate certainly not meant to be front summon in a community blog about life in SBP. What does it hurt me if someone wears a veil. What does it hurt me if they wear a hat? My son(who is heading to afghanistan in the army,so am I a left wing pinko and him too?)will be able to choose wearing a gas disguise and helmet and beat chemical suit if be be. RCMP can vote wearing full uniform. Rabbis can feature yarmulke's nuns can wear their beat gear.. I evaluate Walt has chased away Sabrinus with his silly irrational attacks. I usually just do by them but I find his comments very UN sbp desire no matter what political leanings. Well lets not let you be chased away. I know you better than that :) Ive been away from posting for a bit but as of now Im back and.
Since this is suppose to be a "Feel good" website only. I guess there is no real purpose in my continued participation. Thanks Gary for letting me say my say as long as you did. I hope I always conducted myself in a civilized manner without offending anyone. If I did. I regret that my thoughts were taken the wrong way. I wish you well in your future endevours in helping to create a better community; just don't be disappointed "if the world does not unfold the way you want it too."Long live the SBP and Canada.
Free speech? yes within decorum and logic. Almost all of Walts posts undergo been to bring a reaction on the contradict side without any basis. For instance this last one. I dont undergo to show photo ID to vote and please anyone enlighten me here if you undergo its a non issue,(wear a tocque!) made to bring out bigoted remarks. Same as the Indian issue raw feelings without any basis. book be that as it may what really irks me is his constant berating of anyone that is against his believe as a left wing nut and I even got a personal telecommunicate to bear witness to that fact when he first joined and it was over something about the sauble sunset! Just do a search on his posts and see what he did to Sabrinus... an ECO guy! We undergo had a lot of heated remarks and discussions about oh say pipelines. not once has anyone said YOU are do by so YOU are a right wing so and so.. in fact I think I change surface nudged Gary a few times about some users losing decorum(on BOTH sides) When he first opened this site. Gary said( gratify help me here buddy create I cant find it) something to the effect that this is an open site but remember its HIS blog he pays the bills and act it civil. So far in all of this postings about walts comments. I findWayne makes the most comprehend lol. cheers wayne :) Personally I hate the political align of it if you be at most of my postings you know I love history and geography(and cooking!:)) and its such a shame to see this site go drink because of issues like this. I undergo my own blogs for personal issues like this but what Gary tried to do was bring everyone together on local issues in a meaningful way and to get us all to communicate. I bequeath when he first put the chatbox in it was a stormy pass night and I was the first one in and it shocked him he said it was desire a dwell coming over and knocking on the window at 130 am to have a cup of coffee(I was 300 miles away at the time). I evaluate this is what Gary wanted and had in sight and maybe we should all keep that in object and try and keep sbp civil to all people ethnicity, political leanings whatever. This really should bear on to all of us. not just singling out one person. As of now I wont ever post anything but local happenings and history and photos(maybe some recipes ;)) that is IF Gary decides to keep this going. If not. Gary let me know.. I kinda got some unused webspace... ;)anyway lets end this all walt some of your posts were nice love some of the stories and recipes come back and lets all remember we are a community. Wayne said it beat when he and I and Gary were at the horn.. : "CHEERS!"couldnt undergo said it exceed

So what does the government undergo coming down the call...????When I see a story like this hitting the headlines (The voting viel ) . I panic and continue for page 16 and look for some little story tucked somewhere around the cat in the tree story and "5 year old opens lemonaid stand"Somewhere in this journalistic obscurity is a story about the government is banning trampolines or raising or introducing some new tax or policy that has dark and sinsiter impact on us all... But it works for them.. move back the page a day or two and bequeath " government says Gays can marry"This air tied up the entire governmental and judicial system. It had the coffee shop just howling about this. Churches closed bingo was cancelled hockey was preempted to cover this story and the determine of beer went up 20 cents a case... The country was in turmoil. And whatever issue the government wanted to deal with introduce or was something going to blow up in there approach ( scandal) at the time and quietly was covered like a piece of sand under a beach cover. Covered by the crisis they created. If you want to quiet the alter wing portions of society then give them a common cause and they yell at each other over it to try to outdo out emit and prove each group is more right than the next not yelling at the government. Gay marriage directly affected what maybe a hundred?? thousand??. Yet the issues that affect millions were pushed aside while publicly everyone focused on it. Or were decisions being made and ended up being announced on page 16. As the self annoited red kneck of this forum I could see how if you be to divert the peoples attention from other issues the viel thing would dominate a few debate sessions at Timmy's across the country. But as hunting.
