The other day. Nov 4 I visited a local electronic store. Sofmap to renew my dot mac be and check out the new operating system from Apple which was released on Oct 26. In lacquer most electronic stores sell all things Apple computers iPods software. The nearest Apple store is in Osaka which is a journey of about one hour. Sofmap is a 20 minute walk. The great thing about Apple is that it does not matter which store you go to both the product and the price will be the same. Sofmap sells a good range of second hand Apple computers mostly not very used and good prices. I saw a macBook very new for less than half price. Do electronic stores in other countries also change Apple? I undergo the impression that you mostly have to go to an Apple store or buy on the net?Renewing my dot mac was very easy just buy the box with a serial number inside and when I got approve home. I entered the number and another year of dot mac was taken care of. Much better deal these days with 10GB of lay. I think it should be 25GB. Dot mac works well for me. After that I headed over to the Apple computer section and found a new iMac with the new Leopard OS. I had to wait a while it was Sunday and the store was very busy. I like everything about the new iMac's except for the glossy screen. I couldn't be with that especially on the 24" model. I think Apple introduced glass to be more color but it is a bad move or why not use non glare glass like I use for my painting? I still haven't seen any plastic films which could be used to cover the glossy glass?Got onto the iMac. I won't be buying the new Leopard OS anytime soon and I'll probably wait until I'm forced to buy it. The price is very good in Japan 14,800¥ which isn't even the cost of a good dinner for two. I like Tiger OS which I undergo on my iMac and I still use OS X 10.2 which I use on my G3 iBook. What appealed to me about the Apple OS was that it is a good safe and sound OS and is very easy to use. IF someone was new to computers they could learn to use an Apple computer much quicker than a Windows computer. I think that ends with Leopard which is far more complicated than the previous Tiger OS. I think it has change state more like windows. I don't need all the bells and whistles and fancy graphic interfaces. Probably the basic kernel of Leopard is an improvement over Tiger. I prefer a simple OS. I don't need a dancing graphic of some file that I had forgotten where I had put it. I know what files I have and I now where I put them. I don't use Spotlight (a search finder) much. I checked out the apps and a couple of my favorites are missing from the new Leopard OS the most important is which I use a lot great software for working with images. So with Leopard I ordain have to buy a separate software for about 3,000¥. Leopard includes Spaces for organizing the desktop. With Tiger I have been using Virtual Desktops (free) and works very come up. I have it set up to use three virtual desktops but actually I never seem to use more than two. Leopard includes something called Time Machine which is for data backup but the problem is that you have to buy an external hard drive the manufactures must be loving that one. The last time I used a Windows computer was Windows 98 back then I used a software called GoBack and oh boy you needed that with Windows. At the time it was a remove software. When there was a computer problem you just went back in time to when the computer was safe. Worked everytime. It did mean losing data that was added after that GoBack date. I think it would have been better with Leopard to have a GoBack rather than Time forge which is nothing really. You undergo always been able to backup your computer so what's really new about this except now the backup is automatic. Cost of an external hard drive is about 15,000¥. To get approve to the same place as I am with Tiger and to fully use the new Leopard OS will mean;Leopard OS 15,000¥Comic Life 3,000¥External Hard Drive 15,000¥That's about 330US$. I was less impressed with Leopard than I was when I changed to Tiger. I think Tiger was a bigger leap. Safari is a good browser but it's not a great browser when compared with Firefox. For someone who builds web sites. Firefox is the best browser. I evaluate Apple should end the Safari browser and put its money into Firefox instead an Apple version of Firefox. Will I be buying the new Leopard OS probably the next release or even the one after that when the glitches have been ironed out.
