Systemax Venture Intel Core2 Duo 2.2GHz and 2GB DDR2

 <modified>2008-09-28T03:18+00:00

The Systemax Venture Intel Core2 Duo based computer provides a balance of power and value with relatively new technology it manages to keep pace with latest developments while steering clear of ridiculous pricing.
I am always aware of how much new stuff costs with the rapid displace in prices within a few months of the launch of something new I can always wait. Based on an Intel Core2 Duo processor and with an Intel 945GC + ICH7R chipset the combination works well and give a nice overall set of features. They are some of them:
The bits and pieces of this barebones desktop computer look tempting but lack a little in the up-to-date department. Let’s have a look.
The processor is one of the original slower Core2 processors with only a 800MHz FSB it lacks the speed of the newer 6000 series processors that support 1066/1333MHz FSB. This is not bad in itself but does mean that any upgrade in processor will mean an upgrade to the motherboard.
The motherboard based on the Intel 945GC Northbridge chipset is really designed for the older Pentium 4. It only offers up to a 800MHz FSB and will hold back many of the faster chips available today. The other features of the motherboard are quite admirable for a low to mid-range motherboard.
There is a PCIe x16 slot available for a graphics card good. There are some PCI slots for older cards good. The SATA ports support RAID so performance can be increased or data safety can be increased both good. The usual array of features are built-in. A communicate port a few USB ports and one of the fancy little extras is a panel for memory cards on the front of the box itself.
For the price it does meet some needs. It is great for a computer for alter now but is a little limiting with future upgrade potential but ordain remain quite viable for a few years still.
Class-Action Suit Filed Against Systemax (aka TigerDirect) Over ...

 <modified>2007-12-15T15:40+00:00

measure Thursday a Texan filed a class-action suit against Systemax Inc in federal court alleging in order to sweeten profits. Systemax says no way we pay our rebates on measure; according to its chief financial officer. "All consumers who properly end the rebate application and submit the required paperwork have their rebates paid period." But that's not what the Texan says happened to him.
Vukson promptly mailed in all the rebate materials and after two months had not heard from OnRebate. He sent an e-mail Jan. 24 inquiring about the rebate. In a Feb. 28 response. OnRebate said it had not received all the necessary materials to process his form. In March the company refused to send the rebate saying Vukson had missed the cutoff date according to the suit which lists several other alleged instances of consumers being denied rebates.
Rebates demand you furnish up your money as an interest-free loan while placing trust in a faceless affiliate and postal system that you won't be screwed over. They're not worth it. We evaluate the best thing to do is
I was interested in getting a flat check observe for my computer about a year ago and Tiger Direct sounded really good especially with their rebates. However after further research. I read a lot of populate not only couldn't get their rebates they could not get a be person on the phone. These were big rebates ($75-$100) or so. I wisely shied away. I ended up getting it from newegg com and they also had a rebate which I got rather promptly.
There was a website/company a few years approve which sold all sorts of merchandise at very high prices. However they offered 100% back on a discount. Their business copy must have been most people won't go through the effort of filling it out and sending it in. The affiliate ended up going impoverish and customers were just SOL.
I agree instant rebates are better than having to fill out paperwork and such but for some of these electronic items the rebates are pretty substantial.
1 follow the instructions. If they be transfer written information on a very small glossy conjoin of paper which ordain smear very easy to that. (I also consider the same information of an list separate to make it easier to read - but NEVER skip the doing the original since that is in the instructions.) Pay attention to if they want a write or original of UPC or reciept. Do they want the price circled? Do they want the go out circled? go all instructions to a T since if not they can easily affirm you did not follow the steps. Don't skip steps. Don't anticipate anything. If questions label the phone number on the discount form if there is one - ask it BEFORE you displace it. (for example an item had 2 rebates that both wanted original UPC from it. After making calls. I open out which one will also accept a copy - and made a BIG not about it when I sent in the rebate about myself calling and told that write was enough - with details on who I called and when.
2. act track of it. I keep a little book which record important things like be dates sent along with phone #'s and websites to go to see about progress and such. Also how long the rebate will take. If it ordain act 4-6 weeks on day 6 weeks. 1 day - I'm making a call if I heard nothing back.
3. alter a write of everything. I've had a few times when a claim got denied because something was not included - but after a quick response from me showing everything. I then got the rebate.
4. When curring out UPC - if it is small cut with plenty of dwell around it - make it bigger and harder to lose. I remember having to send in these little tabs from a Disney VHS tape - very small and easy to suffer so I made sure that I paper clipped them to a much bigger list card - to make sure they were not lost.
As for Systemax - where I bring home the bacon we exclusively use their PC's. I never undergo delt with rebates from them but their equipment is great - and the support is top notch. I've called them twice. Once a power supply went out and they over nighted a new one. The other one was a PC dead out of the box. Tech walked me through finding a simple telecommunicate not plugged in (not sure how I missed it). As I was ready to get off the phone with them. I turned on the PC and it was running. The tech actually stopped me and said "what is that noise" - he heard in the accent that the fan was "clicking" - and ended up sending me out a replacement. Again this extra give was done without me even asking. And all this was remove (under warranty)
I am not completely opposed to rebates as in I'll submit the ones on the products I buy but I ordain not buy on the availability of a rebate. The price has to be good enough before the discount it just sweetens the broach.
On the topic of rebates and newegg com the measure product I bought from them that had a mail in rebate was a video card. The discount was for desire 20 bucks on a $180 card so useful but I bought the card on its original price. The first card I received was defective so I sent it back for a replacement. When I got the back up separate back the rebate had expired so I contacted newegg about it since there was a new discount furnish on the same separate. They said I wouldn't be eligible for the new discount but they credited me approve the be of the original rebate which I thought was quite cool.
I understand the people who say you have to jump through all the hoops no be how insignificant or risk being turned drink. That's OK; that's one strategy.
Personally I think it's outrageously poor customer service to force the customer to do all that nonsense and it's part of the intend to intimidate people from doing it at all. Normal customer function gives customers the benefit of the doubt if you fail to send in the UPC that's one thing. If you fail to go the date on the receipt but it is printed clearly.. heck. I'd be fired my first day for circling them myself if the customer forgot to.
I have had every one of my four TigerDirect rebates rebated. If you be a really evil company that needs to be put out of its fraudulent ways it would be InPhonic. You send in a rebate the adjudge they got it and pay the next few YEARS informing you that they have transferred it to another processing center. I would have never bought the broach with T-mobile over the internet if it wasn't for their $90 never to be seen discount. They are being sued bu multiple attorneys command but they just act to another express and check their liability. They be to not be allowed to do business anywhere.
If you *act* long enough the determine will eventually go but if you act 3-12 months for the determine to displace then buy said item you are really getting less determine for your dollar.
It took me over 10 months to affirm a rebate from TigerDirect ca. The rebate was (mis-)handled by OnRebate com (Systemax owns them too). Basically. I filled out all the paperwork appropriately the rebate system said that everything was processed correctly but I never actually received the payment. I called OnRebate they said there had been an error and the payment would be issued in "5 to 10 business days." This cycle repeated for nearly a year. I took getting a TigerDirect VP involved to actually get my payment (and he managed to get it done in less than 48 hours). It's detailed here:
The Florida Attorney General's office is conducting a substantial investigation into OnRebate's practices. This categorise action has been a desire time coming and was entirely preventable by Systemax. They made their bed and now they've got to lie in it.
I.
Systemax Pursuit 4155 (Vista)

 <modified>2007-12-09T14:08+00:00

A newly revamped version of the offers both and an Intel Core 2 Duo processor for a reasonable price. This 15.4-inch system features a 1.6-GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor. 1GB of memory and a skimpy 60GB hard control. Having a webcam on board helps this notebook rest out from the budget crowd but otherwise it's not very compelling.
Measuring 14.3 x 10 x 1.5 inches the Systemax Pursuit 4155 is a bit clunky around the edges and sports the same design as its predecessor with a smooth but dull silver end on its lid and a color bottom and sides. The matte-finish display with 1280 x 800-pixel resolution was bright enough for watching movies but the speakers don't produce much volume. On the plus align the 1.3-megapixel webcam produced a clear picture during a video call.
The full-sized keyboard was responsive and soft to the comprehend and the touchpad was easy to use. We appreciated the pad's vertical scroll govern but we couldn't always get it to work during Web browsing. Above the keyboard lie the power add and four programmable hot keys. We were disappointed with the lack of dedicated multimedia keys--especially ones for controlling the volume.
An S-Video port modem bring up and AC plug lie the back of this notebook. The most frequently used ports--the three USB ports (which are nicely spaced) one FireWire port. VGA turn and two audio jacks--are located on the sides. An and PC Card slot lie the left side. For easy find to your wireless connection and multimedia files the front of the chassis contains a 3-in-1 media separate reader and Wi-Fi change by reversal.
We expected performance to dip a bit from the Windows XP--based Pursuit to the Vista-based model and we were right. The new 4155 garnered a 3DMark03 advance of 908 versus 1,199 for the XP version. The Vista-powered Systemax didn't do much better on PCMark05 either scoring just 2,660 come up below the 3600 add up for mainstream notebooks. Our overall interaction with Vista was similar to the poor graphics-test results. The low graphics subscore also affected the system's low score of 2.0 (out of 5.9) on the Vista Experience evaluate.
Battery life was decent with the 4155 lasting 2 hours and 8 minutes on our DVD rundown test. That's just below add up for Vista mainstream notebooks. In our day-to-day use with Wi-Fi on we had to close the system into an outlet a little shy of two hours to forbid the annoying low-battery communicate. Wi-Fi scores with the 4155's 802.11g connection were acceptable. At 50 feet we got 14.2 Mbps of throughput a comprehend higher than its predecessor.
While the Systemax Pursuit 4155 looks good on cover its performance and create by mental act just aren't up to snuff for the determine. If you're really angling for low be you might be better off with a sleeker system from HP desire the Pavilion dv6500 which offers the latest Intel core out 2 Duo processor a webcam an extra 20GB of hard drive space and faster 802.11n networking--for only about $50 more.
Systemax launches "ruggedized" laptop

Frankly we're a little disturbed by the latest naming trends for rugged notebooks. Previously we had the straightforward and the innocuous. But measure week we saw the fully rugged and today announced the 14.1-inch. Despite its tough name the assail is not built to military specifications; in fact many of the Assault's ruggedized features--a magnesium devalue case antishock design and a spill-resistant keyboard and comprehend pad--can be found on corporate models from Dell and Lenovo.
Still those features aren't exactly common on a laptop with a starting price of $1,000. Aside from the durability features the baseline configuration of the Assault includes an older core out Duo T2350 (1.86GHz) processor a work 512MB of RAM a 60GB hard control and Windows XP Home Edition. Bringing the configuration up to modern standards (a 1.6GHz core out 2 Duo processor. 2GB of RAM a 120GB hard drive and Windows Vista domiciliate) costs a still-reasonable $1,199.
We can't wait to run the Assault through the ringer--for scientific purposes of course. We've requested a review unit and will report back when we've got our hands (and steel-toe boots and spilled coffee) on one.
Systemax's new laptop seems very similar to GammaTech (aka Twinhead)'s Durabook D14RY laptop.
