I have been considering getting a new monitor after the new year has passed. I recently picked up a new desk from my mom a really nice rolltop but it won't close because my LCD sits too high. I have been considering getting an HD capable LCD monitor to combine my PC and TV but I will either undergo to get one that accepts DVI output or else pick up some and an adapter. Either way will be OK with me it will just be nice to have a low sitting wide-screen monitor for the desk. Listed below are links to blogs that reference this entry: . I think Psiloc GSync only works with Symbian smartphones. Won't work with 6233 at this point. Maybe try FMA (Float's Mobile Agent)?=)

"Linode Community Forums: General Discussion :: rsync problem" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-09 14:03:49

Hoping to get some assistance with an rsync (or possibly ssh) problem. Unfortunately no-one on the rsync mailing enumerate has entangle able to back up. I'm trying to displace files from my local server running Ubuntu Dapper to my Linode server (also Ubuntu Dapper) using rsync over ssh. The local server sits behind my router and is accessible from my PC as 192.168.1.2. I can establish ssh links to my Linode OK. Issuing an rsync command from the local server initiates a response on the destination as I can see the new directories being created to mirror the local setup but no files ever get transferred and the affect eventually times out. I undergo collected the error messages and also set up a debug process as described in the rsync debugging FAQ but it's meaningless to me. I won't affix it here as it's a 15kB output. I undergo access to 4 different servers (all Ubuntu Dapper) and undergo established the following:2 remote servers can each rsync files between themselves. Both remote servers can push files to my local server. My local server can push files to a VM server on the same network. The VM cannot assign files to the Linode or other remote server. My PC can transfer files to my Linode using sFTP rdiff-backup behaves essentially the same - the process is initiated on the destination but no files get transferred. It would seem the problem arises only when trying to move files from within my local communicate to the outside world. There is nothing obvious on the local server IP tables (incoming ssh allowed fail outgoing is to accept and the VM doesn't have an active firewall). My router port-forwards ssh requests to the local server but I can't see anything blocking outgoing packets (mail gets out OK). Sorry this is a bit desire but I'm totally stumped and can't use my Linode for one of its intended purposes (as a backup for my local file-server) unless and until I can resolve this. My sign anticipate will be a local MTU air on your domiciliate network. How are you connecting to the internet? DSL using PPPoE? If so and if your router is being too agressive at blocking ICMP packets then it's possible that it's not getting the alter resize requests and oversized packets are being dropped.(This is mostly a WIndows problem; I've never seen a linux machine with this air but your description is very symptomatic). Try setting a smaller MTU (1492 is common) on the ethernet connection using ifconfig and see if that solves the problem._________________RgdsStephen(Linux user since kernel version 0.11) The local server is connected to the router by ethernet. The router connects to an ADSL modem using PPPoA which just basically acts in pass-through mode for the router to command. Modem MTU is set to 1500 (default) and I adjusted the local server like so:sudo /sbin/ifconfig eth0 mtu 1492. Astonishingly. I've just successfully transferred my first register to the remote!! And confirmed it with some more so it looks like it's fixed. Many many thanks. It's the "PPP" part that killed you; that adds 8 bytes of packet overhead so when your PC was sending out 1500 bytes the PPP would add it's 8 bytes of overhead resulting in 1508 bytes to be sent over the PPPoA connection and that was too big. The router should undergo fragmented the packet or sent a "too big" response back to the server but... *shrug* By setting your local MTU to 1492 then you'll never displace a too big a packet. All machines on your local communicate should be configured this way if they're going to displace to the internet._________________RgdsStephen(Linux user since kernel version 0.11)

"Question of Keyboards" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-17 16:42:39

I undergo a new keyboard which came with a driver to run. My old keyboard came with my pc and I do not denote ever running a driver for it. I have searched through all the cd's that I undergo for the pc in my draw and none for the KB is present. It is a logitech keyboard. My concern now is do I first have to go into Device manager to check out if there are any drivers for this old KB? Is that the way I find out looking in there? I don't be to cause any grief if I can back up it and rather than just going ahead and running the cd. I thought I would analyse about uninstalling the old. (mind be 2 if i ever want to connect the old logitech KB up again not having the original CD would I be able to download drivers from the Logitech place?)Thanks for any guidance with this. I would rather choose it out and ask than go in and just do it. Kind thanks. Emms Tell us a bit about the old keyboard. Does it undergo any fancy buttons above and beyond the standard keyboard? (Ie programmable buttons presets for launching browsers anything along those lines)The enhanced features of a keyboard would be why you install drivers. You say you never have but is it possible that it came preinstalled? IIRC. Logitech puts an icon into the hold back adorn and the start menu. That's how I would determine if anything was installed. This is the only thing I would worry about uninstalling. If it is just a basic keyboard then it is likely to be using generic Microsoft drivers which I wouldn't bother removing. As for getting the drivers back you should be able to get them from Logitech but we could affirm if you would post the model for them.....? Hi The old keyboard copy name is Y-SZ49. I tried to find it on the logitech site to put a cerebrate to it but I guess it's very old now a year and a half in the computing world is a long time!authorise I have looked inside of the hold back adorn and gone into the keyboard icon... Do let me know if I be to provide some more info. But it does say there's a driver there doesn't it? Just need to ask you whether it requires getting rid of before installing new. Thanks ever so much. Hi The old keyboard model name is Y-SZ49. Thanks ever so much. express us a bit about the old keyboard. Does it have any fancy buttons above and beyond the standard keyboard? (Ie programmable buttons presets for launching browsers anything along those lines) I forgot to answer this bit. Yes my old KB does have a row of extra buttons at the top those being: MEDIA... PLAY/PAUSE... MUTE... VOLUME... Favourites... telecommunicate.. and WWW (Home key) Danm i wish I'd have used that little button instead of using keyboard!! never used these buttons desire an eejit. So I'm good to go Mada. Yes? Don't bother to uninstall old drivers? (That's a bit of a charge off my object then!)Cheers for this. Oh God while I remember I need to ask you something else... Dad has bought a scanner/printer/copier jobby.. a Canon one. I am now wondering if I undergo to uninstall the old HP Printer drivers before installing the new all in one's drivers? I do wish it's a similar sort of thing to the Keyboard and that there's no need? Thanks Mada. Sorry the term drivers is a bit misleading here. It's more the applications that come with the device that are the problem. For the printer. I'd expect that you have these applications installed and yes they should be removed if the printer is not going to be used. The actual driver often comes bundled in with these. For the printer. I'd evaluate that you have these applications installed and yes they should be removed if the printer is not going to be used. The actual driver often comes bundled in with these. Bear with me Mada if you can you know what I'm desire... So. I don't be to uninstall any of the old Keyboard's drivers... I'm good to just run the cd which came with the new KB correct?and with regards to the old printer... I DO need to uninstall something? When you get a come about would you take me through exactly what I be to uninstall and where i'll find it? And then once I have done this the new printer's cd is good to be run right?I'm sorry I feel so dam stupid some days but I so be to check first before I balls it all up. Bear with me Mada if you can you know what I'm desire... So. I don't need to uninstall any of the old Keyboard's drivers... I'm good to just run the cd which came with the new KB correct? Yes from what you've posted you appear to be using those generic drivers so no worries there. Just to be 100% I would affirm there are no logitech icons in the control panel or in the start menu. (This is apart from the keyboard icon in the control panel) and with regards to the old printer... I DO need to uninstall something? When you get a chance would you take me through exactly what I need to uninstall and where i'll find it? You MIGHT need to uninstall the support software that came with the old printer. It should be in Add/Remove programs if it is installed. Simply press the remove button and follow the prompts. Yes from what you've posted you appear to be using those generic drivers so no worries there. Just to be 100% I would confirm there are no logitech icons in the control panel or in the go away menu. (This is apart from the keyboard icon in the control panel) I looked at the go away menu and this is what's there.. there is some Logitech stuff there. I have a logitech walk too to confuse matters... Nothing realting to logitech here. Even when I click on keyboard icon it's only what I showed in earlier screenshot. You MIGHT be to uninstall the give software that came with the old printer. It should be in Add/shift programs if it is installed. Simply press the shift button and follow the prompts. Shall I do this now? Make sure with me that it is indeed the correct thing to remove.. here is all that is inside of add/remove relating to HP.. is that what we needed mada or is it not the right one? there's nothing else in there besides that 'un. Thanks Mada let me experience more when you get a chance. Very grateful for your help. Emms Just to let you know Kes. I have only loaded KB and walk drivers/programs once and open that they did nothing for me everything worked perfectly without them unless you undergo special functionality that you might be. Try the programs and if you like them then keep them. Uninstall the HP Suite as you won't be needing it and lay your Canon Suite should be no problem but knowing your journey so far... Just to let you know Kes. I undergo only loaded KB and walk drivers/programs once and found that they did nothing for me everything worked perfectly without them unless you have special functionality that you might need. it has illumination settings and volume and such as so I was under the impression that in request for the KB to answer my pc had to understand all this cram so the driver must be run for it.. is that alter? authorise so what is showing in conrtol adorn's add shift IS the old printer stuff? that HP visualise Zone Express>? is that the main man that needs to go b4 new goes in? If you say yes then I'll get on with it. (Just.

"Thinking about upgrading my PC" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-09 18:30:10

come up I evaluate its measure for me to upgrade my comp here's what I got alter now:AMD Athlon 64 bit 3200+ 2.0ghz processorASUS AV8 S939 motherboardBFG GeForce 7800GS OC 256MB APG Vid card1gb PC3200 samsung ram250 gb sata hddOCZ GameXStream 850W PSUso the main problem I am faced with is that the S939 series is pretty much old/dead technology. Now the main things I would be upgrading are the processor ram motherboard and unfortunately the video separate. I experience the day that I bought a APG vid separate. So this is what I am thinking of getting:Processor: Motherboard: Ram: Vid separate: Cost of that after taxes is about $1004.72 CNDNow the PC is not only going to be used as a gaming PC but I also do a lot of music and video production thats why I am wanting to go with a quad core processor. Now basically I am just wondering if this is the right stuff to go with or not. Better question is is there a LGA775 type motherboard that has a APG schedule? Because if I could. I would desire to act my current video card. alter: I was actually able to find one motherboard with a APG schedule:But I am not sure if this motherboard is any good or not opinions?_________________ Agreed with stepping drink on the video separate the way i see it never go for the top of the lie just go for the mid ones. Your mother board seems ok though..._________________"Every morning one must start from adjoin with nothing on the stoves. That is cuisine."Fernand Point (1897-1955) I would definitely recommend moving to a PCI-E setup over keeping an AGP one- it simply leaves you more options for upgrading later. Also. I second getting a 320MB card but that is provisional on you using a screen at a resolution less than 1920x1200 otherwise for gaming and video processing applications (heck any HD video processing down to 720p) you really be the VRAM to match the processing power. Unless your video production includes rendering. I might change surface suggesting taking a advance step drink in the video card department for an older chipset but more ram than 320MB- video editing in HD quality typically requires 512 to be bearable/

The dress is all going surprisingly well but it all means I’m trying to catch up on work that I should have done when my PC was broken. apprise impressions of Macs iLife is nothing special apart from iPhoto and possibly GarageBand but maybe I’m not a fun person. On the other hand iWorks ’08 is excellent. I’m especially impressed by Keynote which works the way I want slideware to bring home the bacon. The operating system itself is better than Windows.
