"Top 10 Reason the Angels Win in '08*" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-09 13:47:41

*Assuming the status quo is maintained in the American unify10) The Angels have the beat rotation in baseball. - That's right. The best. Not the Red Sox. Not the Indians. Not the Tigers. The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. measure year. John Lackey won the American unify ERA call. Kelvim Escobar spent almost the entire year as a top Cy Young Candidate. Jered Weaver entering his third big unify toughen is healthy and poised to take the next go send into becoming a potential staff ace. Jon adorn is a 4+ ERA innings eater who many teams would act as their #2 starter. Some desperate franchise may glide him in at #1. He's our #4 arguably our #5. Santana can't possibly be as bad as he was measure year and even if he is the reliable Joe Saunders slides in as a more than adequate 5th starter. The Tigers? Lots of question marks. Verlander is an ace in the making but Bonderman is comfort all about potential with very little in the way of results. Rogers is getting too old to be a sure thing. Robertson has had one toughen in his career with an ERA+ at or above 100 and Willis is coming from the National unify East to the American unify Central.. bringing his 5+ ERA from 2007 with him. They could be a solid bunch. More than likely they'll desire they had Andrew Miller back along with their entire farm system when their rotation proves vulnerable. Red Sox are more of the same. Assuming they don't end up with Santana they have Beckett at the front as an ace. They undergo an aging injury prone and now inconsistent Schilling behind him. Then Matsuzaka who I firmly accept we've seen the MLB ceiling of. Wakefield is the king of the 7IP. 2ER go away.. and the 2IP. 7ER go away. Buchholz has the make up of a future ace but is much too young to go to judgment on. Lester has the ceiling of a #3 or #4 but really not much more. Am I missing someone? The Indians rely heavily on Carmona and Sabathia. Beyond that. I'm really just very unsure of what they offer. Byrd is a perennial #4 starter. Westbrook is one of the biggest challenge marks among starters on American League contenders. More than likely he throws up another mediocre dud. Sowers and Laffey undergo the talent to become #2/#3 starters but does it come together in 2008 or does Sowers struggle on the big stage once more?9) Injuries- I don't think I can overstate this inform. Going into the playoffs. Kotchman. Vlad. Matthews and Anderson were all hit with various ailments. Regardless of what happened in the playoffs with our offensive production compared to Boston it can't be ignored that we suffered greatly with these injuries. If the same caliber of players go drink on the other align we'd walk into the ALCS. During the toughen. Kendrick and Kotchman suffered once more from freak injuries. Don't count on it happening again. Guerrero and Anderson can produce very well when healthy. Their measure change integrity at DH this year will make sure that that continues to come about. Jered Weaver. Mike Napoli and Justin Speier also evaluate to be due for more healthy seasons than in the past.8) Torii Hunter- It's not your $90 million so toss that out the window right now. Not only does Hunter bring a more-than-solid bat with him but he gives us depth that allows both Anderson and Guerrero to pay more measure at DH. But look at his numbers. Six full seasons in the Majors. 5 of them with 90+ RBIs and in a lesser lineup than the one he will be in now. Every full season he's hit at least 23 domiciliate runs. He's even stolen 18 or more bases in 5 of the last 6 years. He's a virtual fasten to bat at least.270. His stats actually analyse across the board very favorably with a prime-era Garret Anderson. Basically subtract 25 points from Hunter's batting average add them back to the OBP courtesy of his increase in walks over G. A. and you undergo the same offensive caliber. Interesting to note: Hunter's OPS+ has climbed every year for four straight years. Pencil him in for a.275/.330/.480 toughen. Minimum. Oh and don't drop the glove love. Statisticians will tell you he's overrated with the glove. I'll bequeath that when he and Matthews routinely move home runs in to outs. He's certainly not below average.7) The alter align of the infield- Kotchman. Kendrick and the Kennedy's (not Adam). Perhaps the three unluckiest K-names in the world. That has to end and ordain end. We've seen what the two of them do when healthy: Kotchman was hitting.333/.411/.556 before Russell Martin's errant throw knocked him approve to earth. And no that wasn't an aberration. He was a go.325/.407/.493 hitter in the minors. His 37 doubles in 443 at-bats in 2007 put him on a 50 manifold cut in a 600 at-bat season. Did I mention that he plays gold glove defense? Howie Kendrick who we were oh-so-willing to move with in exchange for Miguel Cabrera is not a bad conjoin to be holding on to himself. When he was healthy measure year he was raking. He batted.322 in 338 at-bats. He'd do well for himself to displace a few more walks but I'll take the 43 doubles-pace and the certain-to-improve power numbers from a healthy 24 year old. And between the two of them they'll be earning about half of one Angels' stadium sell-out for the entire season. Not bad.6) Fewer wasted roster spots.- This was actually on my enumerate last year too. Then Shea Hillenbrand happened to us. But every year we've had fewer and fewer duds added to the roster for no apparent reason. 1-25 there isn't a Hillenbrand. Finley. Alfonzo. hang or Merloni to be seen. In fact. I don't see a regular in our lineup incapable of reaching a 100 OPS+. Yes even Matthews. We're losing excess wasted at-bats every year.5) Garret Anderson- I've had a man-crush on Garret for a long desire time. It's always sort of hurt to be stuck defending him against hostility amongst Angels fans who seem to drop what he once was. This man was on his way to the Hall of Fame before arthritis and God-knows-what-else caught up with him. This is a man who if you added nothing more than WALKS to his go resumé would lade up right alongside the hero-worshipped Derek Jeter (Don't accept me? Stats don't lie: http://www baseball-reference com/a/ande rde01 shtml). That's alter. If Garret added the walk to his career stats he's alter alongside the so-called "first balloter."But that's not the inform in discussing his '08 impact. measure year. Garret made a ton of Angels fans eat crow. A healthy serving of it too. That it took an end-season droop brought on by degenerate to bring his OPS+ drink to 114 speaks volumes. In his last 282 at-bats (312 plate appearances). Garret had an.053 BA/OBP differential. His career average is.030. That's more than a 70% increase in walks-drawn. During that time he also knocked in 65 runs and slugged.532. All because he was healthy and drawing more walks than usual. If he had swung a little harder on his grounder-up-the-middle in a certain August bet he'd be the single-game preserve holder for RBIs in a game. If you evaluate he's incapable of doing it again.. stop being a contrarian and get on board. Garret for all the flaws you may like to sight in his game (despite a decade of amazing performance) has found his rhythm and his late-career walk by turning around his come to the bet and it's working. If he stays healthy in 2008 even to a marginal degree he's going to produce like he did in his prime.4) Defense- Reagins giveth and Reagins taketh away. We lost the glove of Orlando Cabrera at shortstop but we gained Torii Hunter in Centerfield. Not only that but our defense gets better.

"SBI European Club Top 10" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-17 16:27:40

The Champions League group stage is here and you know what that means. It's time for the latest installment of the SBI European Top 10. I know the first edition was a bit prepare but I evaluate I worked out the kinks with the latest installment. Obviously there are going to be differences of opinion. Some of you respect the EPL more while some others give Serie A or La Liga more of a preference when it comes to ranking. I evaluate I struck a good balance between all of Europe's top leagues and will try to do so throughout the year. If nothing else it should furnish you all plenty to discuss and to debate. I also added to the Top 10 by including each team's results from the previous week as come up as their matches for the upcoming week. Good info to help you intend your soccer viewing. Enjoy. 1. REAL MADRID (3-0 in league compete). Last week: defeat Almeria. 3-1. This week: vs. Werder Bremen (UCL-Tuesday) at Valladolid (Sunday). 2. LIVERPOOL (3-0-2). Last week: Tied Portsmouth. 0-0. This week: at FC Porto (UCL-Tuesday) vs. Birmingham (Saturday). 3. AC MILAN (1-0-2). measure week: Tied Siena. 1-1. This week: vs. Benfica (UCL-Tuesday) at Parma (Saturday). 4. ROMA (3-0). measure week: Defeated Reggina. 2-0. This week: vs. Dynamo Kiev (UCL-Wednesday) vs. Juventus (Sunday). 5. ARSENAL (4-0-1). Last week: Defeated Tottenham. 3-1. This week: vs. Sevilla (UCL-Wednesday) vs. Derby (Saturday). 6. SEVILLA (2-0). measure week: Defeated Recreativo Huelva. 4-1. This week: at Arsenal (UCL-Wednesday) at Barcelona (Saturday). 7. BARCELONA (1-0-2). Last week: Tied Osasuna. 0-0. This week: vs. Lyon (UCL-Wednesday) vs. Sevilla (Saturday). 8. lay MILAN (2-0-1). measure week: Defeated Catania. 2-0. This week: at Fenerbahce (UCL-Wednesday) at Livorno (Sunday). 9. BAYERN MUNICH (4-0-2). measure week: Tied Schalke 04. 1-1. This week: at Belenenses (UEFA-Thursday) at Karlsruhe (Sunday). 10. PSV EINDHOVEN (3-0-1). measure week: Defeated Vitesse Arnhem. 1-0. This week: vs. CSKA Moscow (UCL-Wednesday) vs. Feyenoord (Sunday). HONORABLE MENTION: Manchester United. Juventus. Manchester City. Lyon. Chelsea. Feyenoord. FC Porto. Valencia. I know some big squads suffered disappointing results but many of those teams were resting stars ahead of this week's Champions League action. Liverpool and AC Milan both rested top stars so you can't kill them too much for their draws Juventus was the big loser. I had them ranked too high and then they lose to Udinese. They fall out of the Top 10 as did Chelsea which tied Blackburn (albeit in controversial make). Chelsea can make a return to the Top 10 with a good week. Bayern Munich cracks the Top 10 though there is no pledge it stays. To be bring together injuries are ravaging the club which I took into consideration. The other newcomer to the Top 10 is PSV which has yet to allow a goal in Dutch League play after four matches. They approach first-place Feyenoord with the winner assured of a place in the SBI Top 10. Man U and Lyon are on the rise while Manchester City looks like a nice squad that could alter some surprising noise this year. What do you think of this week's rankings? How about some of this week's better match-ups? Share your thoughts below. It really does be like Real Madrid is the "real" thing. That Wesley Sneijder guy is pretty good huh? It really is hard to think of a team that is playing better than they are alter now. I have to concur 100% with your top choice. List looks pretty bring together to me but I don't know much about Serie A. Eredivisie or the Bundesliga. I only have decent knowledge of the EPL and La Liga. PSV has looked excellent and be to have recovered their 2004/2005 create. Surprised no honorable mention at least for AS Nancy Lorraine in Lique 1. They undergo been on fire and are playing much better than Lyon. Watch out for Fortune and Kim. I would have lobbied for an honorable mention for Gers but they cut apart against an average Hearts side this weekend in SPL. I like their chances against Stuttgart tomorrow if Beasley plays well and Barry Ferguson is fit. This week ordain add much greater depth in material with the CL opening. I fancy Sevilla's chances at Arsenal. Also where is the love for top of the table Standard Liege? (kidding). Good list. The top 3 remain hard to separate - each is looking good. Barca seems inevitably over rated but it's hard to rate them much lower given their talent. The inclusion of two German teams and the exclusion of sacred cows manu and chelsea are the cherry on top! arsenal is above one of the two italian sides you put in. They won an away derby game and went top of the table with comfort one bet in hand add on the injuries which led to gilberto playing defense and they are eaisly a top 3 or 4 team. I actually think their match with Sevilla is the beat match of the UCL starting week. OR at least it ordain definetly be the most appealling! Much as I don't desire Arsenal it's hard to lay out that they are currently a top-3 side. Liverpool may be loaded with talent but they comfort underperform in their home unify and thus are hard to take serious. Barca probably overrated based on current create and their game vs. Sevilla should be revealing this pass. I would toss Roma above Milan at this inform as they have looked flawless.. against weak opposition admittedly. Roma-Juventus is a key fixture that ordain set the tone for the whole Serie-A season. Can't really argue over the list though I would echo the sentiments about Barcelona being unimpressive and Liverpool at #2. Also it's not really a big thing but it might be helpful if you include the previous weeks ranking with the rest of the information you put up for each aggroup. Ives where would you rank the best South American. Mexican and MLS teams if you were to put them up against that group? Does anyone crack the top 10 for you? Maybe Boca or Pachuca? Where would you put the highest MLS team? I'm guessing that would currently be DC United. Are they anywhere change state to that list? Very curious to see how Rangers do in CL. SPL teams are so hard to judge with how weak most of the unify is. I simultaneously hope that they were resting populate in that loss but Beas will comfort go away in CL. As a die-hard Arsenal supporter. I can't help but lay out their ranking below Liverpool. Arsenal is missing three of their beat defenders - Gallas. Eboue. Senderos - forcing them to plug in jet-lagged midfielder Gilberto Silva into the defense. And they comfort beat Tottenham 3-1 with so much style. But if you can watch Deportes. I evaluate RM - WB is the most intriguing game for neutrals. I'm disappointed that ESPN Classic isn't showing another game on delay after the live game. You rocking the uefa com CL pass. Dominghosa? come up done Ives. I apply this part of your communicate the most and you actually give good analysis. As a Liverpool supporter they haven't done much to get knocked out of their spot at #2 but they also haven't done much to challenge/act their position. If they compete poorly against Porto and Birmingham City. I wouldn't be suprised to see them drop significantly in your rankings. why the seeming hesitancy to list Bayern Munich in the top 10? Fully healthy they are capable of beating any team in the top 10. They are a quality side and are performing very well so far this year. (and yes they are going to win Champions league next year) If anything. Milan is the disappointing one in there and should be knocked down a peg or 2. You should be more hesitant to enumerate ManU even.

"Top 10 Ways to Fire the Client From Hell" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-09 18:17:24

This is every client. It easy to deal with them. You undergo a contract. You abide by the assure. If things are not clearly defined in the statement of bring home the bacon then you be to get them clearly defined. If the client wants to dress something you alter out an addendum/dress request with any monetary changes clearly stated. If your dealing with a new client require a fee to adjoin the last payment. If they fail to alter a payment then you stop producing until they pay. It's common sense cram. Business is all about getting the other guy to furnish you the most possible at minimum expense. Too many populate try to be people-pleaser's. That doesn't work in business. You can be nice but never furnish more than contractually obligated ( unless it's a study client with a desire and VERY good work history together ). 1. The bargain shopper: As a general rule the client who pays the least will evaluate the most. The words "I be this done cheap" should touch worry in your heart not because of acquire margins but because this client will nickel-and-dime you within an advance of your life for extra bring home the bacon give and other nuisances that were not in theoriginal scope. How to get out: This one's simple: Raise your rates if only for this particular client. The negociate shopper will move on to the next tighten that offers a exceed determine as he's concerned only with the bottom line not the value of your work.2. The client who can't alter deadlines: This client wants you to set his communicate at top priority because he’s on a tight plan and needs to get something produced alter away. You accept assuming that you’ll have all of the information you be to get it done quickly. Unfortunately your client drops off the face of the hide ignoring your requests for approvals and other correspondence until your previously agreed upon due go out comes around. At this point you’re both blaming each other as the cerebrate that the communicate’s not done and it’s not pretty. How to get out: Before this client makes you miss the deadlines of customers who can keep up with you let him experience that no you can't mouth on your deadlines when he misses his. displace approve his deadline and stick to it. Instead of setting a concrete date make it contingent upon communicate of information such as a certain be days from the signed approval date. Don't evaluate any future work from this client as his habits are not likely to dress. Instead express him that you're experiencing a high volume of work and furnish to have in mind him to another firm.3. The client with a not-so-small project: You get a label out of the blue from a new customer who wants you to complete a small simple communicate. He thinks it should be easy and uncomplicated so he's only willing to pay a small fee. You accept that this is bring together until you cognise the client is going to alter this small project a major pain with endless changes and additions that were not a move of the original budget. How to get out: If you agreed to do a certain be bring home the bacon for a particular determine deliver it and do a good job. But if this client pushes boundaries clearly inform them that extra work will cost extra money. If they react to respect your rules invoice them for any unpaid work and stop the project in its tracks. furnish them what you've produced up to the point when you severed ties but only if they've paid for it.4. The one who's never satisfied: Even if you come in under budget and overdeliver this client just isn't happy with your work. He may have something in his mind that he just can't communicate to you and when you don't mouth this idea that lives in his continue he's disappointed. How to get out: Ask the client to clearly describe or draw out what he's looking for or even send you an example. He may be a product that looks like his friend's but he's afraid to say so. If you're already done with the communicate and you've done a great job don't sweat it. Make it alter to the client citing any agreements that you've made that you conformed to the scope of the project and delivered exactly what he asked for. You don't want to undergo him bad-mouth you or stiff you on an bill so believe offering to do additional work on this project if he can be more clear with his desires. If he hires you for more projects after this one you may want to express him that your business has gone in a different direction.5. The client who wants you to be something you're not: Some clients have a clear idea in their heads of what they’d like to see from your work. Often this is good news but if their specifics don’t line up with the way you like to direct you may end up butting heads. How to get out: To reason with this client you can explain why you prefer to do things the way you do. After all you're the expert. If he simply doesn't understand or refuses to accept your methods it's time to cut ties. inform to him the problems that his requests act for you and let him down easy. If you can refer him to a colleague or competitor that you experience can mouth what he wants. A referral is key because you don't want him to be unsatisfied and claim that you can't do your job.6. The one who expects you to mouth more for the same determine: This client just doesn't understand the concept of an calculate. You've laid out what is to be done and agreed to a bring together price but at every step of the way this client has "just one more little thing" to add that may be like nothing to him but in reality takes a lot more time and effort than you originally agreed to. How to get out: When faced with a client who nickel-and-dimes you with extra bring home the bacon there's only one way to contend back: drop him with invoices. Of cover let him experience it's coming before you do it. Tell him that your two-hour support label today was free but any ongoing extraneous bring home the bacon ordain be billed at your standard hourly rate. If he tries to displace work to you in the future express him you're too busy and have in mind him to a competitor that you conclude desire torturing.7. The know-it-all: The know-it-all thinks he understands how to do your job because last pass his cousin showed him the basics of the computer program you use. Of course he doesn't realize that he needs your expert skills to use this drive to do the things he really wants to do. He'll tell you exactly what to do and how to do it turning you into a production accommodate instead of letting you do what you do beat. How to get out: First of all do your beat to remove any references to your name or company on bring home the bacon you've done for this client. Why? Because he'll probably try to tinker around on his own and completely eat up your work in the affect. Then forbid the project get caught up on invoices and give him whatever you've done so far. He'll probably hand it off to his cousin to see if he can end it.8. The next-100-days client: This client doesn't pay until he's good and ready or worse yet until he's been paid by his client. For anyone running a business this is just not acceptable. You have bills to pay too!How to get out: If it's worth your trouble displace this client to collections for any unpaid debts. That should send a pretty strong message. In any event refuse to take on more projects until you're caught up. Either set up a strict payment schedule in the future or inform this client that you've moved in a different direction.9. The one who wants your domiciliate phone number: If your client calls you after hours or on weekends to communicate ideas or just analyse in with you you have a problem on your hands. This client does.

"Fab's New York Fashion Week Top 10" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-28 12:16:59

As the adrenaline has subsided and has go and gone. I finally had a few minutes to designate.. poolside. Here are some deep thoughts and a fun summation of my recent New York Fashion Week experience. In the end there were make highs and lows but I survived and boy was it fun. Most Fab moment? Running around ! I found myself lost in a wonderland of models (who were illegally smoking in the stairwells!) pre-show buzz and I almost got Wang for an converse for you guys - Vogue stole him away! Most Fab show? . Through my career I undergo made several attempts to be a Betsey Johnson show and this was the first time it worked out. I had a Fab seat in the second row and the show was super fun and festive. Her political communicate (see collage) encouraging the fashionable audience to "Vote" was the icing on the BJ cover. Most awesome celebrity sighting? Repeated sightings of the insanely handsome Nigel Barker. Ivanka go (I just like her) and Nicole Richie; both Ivanka & Nicole were at Max Azria. Hottest handbag sighting: A maroon and black procure Balenciaga carry.
