"ExpressCard wireless adapter vs PC wireless adapter" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-09 18:29:50

I am trying to decide between two laptops. They both are basically the same except for one has an ExpressCard schedule and the other has a PC card slot. How much faster will an ExpressCard notebook adapter versus a standard PC card adapter. Both adapters are made for the Dlink Extreme N router. Does anyone know about these two specific adapters and their go? If not in command how much faster should the ExpressCard be? I will be using the router to overlap an internet connection. From the prodcut description; "the ExpressCard interface provides up to 236% faster performance and exceed reliability than the legacy CardBus** interface.** Maximum throughput derived from CardBus and ExpressCard™" specifications. Below is a link to both cards.»www dlink com/products/?pid=532&sec=1»www dlink com/products/?pid=550&sec=1I am also considering using the adapter that comes with the laptop. It is a standard 802.11 g/b card. Does anyone know how the Extreme N might bring home the bacon with this adapter? Thanks! The separate interfaces far exceed data rates over the air so the interface is not the limiting factor. In fact USB 2.0 at 480 megabits is comfort faster than any offered wifi today. Bob Bob,Are you saying then it doesn't be whether I undergo the ExpressCard. PC separate. OR USB interface? Based on what you say about USB 2.0 wouldn't a USB 2.0 network adapter furnish me the same speed as either the ExpressCard or PC card adapter? I have heard everywhere that PC card adapters give better speeds than USB adapters. I undergo heard so many conflicting things. I don't know what to accept. Will any adapter furnish me a better connection than the 802.11 b/g that comes with the laptop? So when they say "the ExpressCard interface provides up to 236% faster performance and exceed reliability than the legacy CardBus** interface.**" are they are talking about the interface only and not the card?Kevin While the interface is faster the slowest link sets the real check. In this inspect wifi change surface on a nice hotspot is at best 54 megabit with USB 2.0 at 8 times that speed. Sorry no obtain or loss here. Bob

"Wireless PC Config" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-03 14:33:39

I undergo a question regarding the config of a wireless PC. My homenetwork looks a little like this:Internet|Cable modem|Wired Router| \ \ \-- Webserver for mydomain tld| \ \----- Wired PC| \-------- Wired PC|Wireless RouterzzWireless PCThe webserver (Fedora) runs a website - mydomain tld - that isaccessible from outside (via dynamic DNS) and internally (via static192.168 entries in the /etc/entertain files). This works book for thewired PCs - as they never leave the house - but it's not the idealsolution for the wireless PC (a Nokia N800). The problem with the wireless PC is that when it is attached to aforeign wireless communicate the webserver for mydomain tld is no longeraccessible at the 192.162 address configured in the /etc/host file. It's then necessary to comment out the entry in the /etc/host filebefore mydomain tld can be accessed via the internet. So what's the right solution for this? How should I configure thewireless PC to use a different address for mydomain tld when connectedon different wireless networks. All/any advice appreciated. On Sep 10. 9:50 am. OK nevermind it was a config problem with the wired router. Aftersome googling I open the solution - to turn on NAT loopback. Afterthis the local server can be reached internally and externally usingthe same external ip address. No be to messwith host files (which is a disaster if you are trying to use awireless PC!)Anyhow I'll consider the instructions here in case it can be usefulforanyone else. cerebrate to the router with telnet (the web interface doesn't includethis config item) and sight the CLI - menu 24.8 type "ip nat loopback on" <enter>This will turn NAT loopback on but if you reboot the setting ordain goback to fail ie off. To make the router keep the setting telnet to the CLI - menu 24. 8write "sys edit autoexec net" <register>press "i" then type "ip nat loopback on" <enter>touch "x" to save the configuration.(Credits to and) Powered by vBulletin® Version 3.6.8procure ©2000 - 2007.
