I'm having a furnish dinner party with all foods upside drink and inside out. Does any chowhound out there now of any neat foods that might fit the bill (besides the usual pineapple upside drink cake)? In dire need of a savory dish. Not savory but I like love love inside out carrot cake cookies (done desire a sandwich with the icing between two cookies). They get raves whenever I take them anywhere. I will find the recipe if you want it - I evaluate it came from Gourmet. Thinking back to college there's the upside-down margarita.. but I bet this wasn't the kind of thing you had in mind. I also bequeath a novelty recipe from way back for an 'outside in' hamburger where all the fixings (ie cease onion slice pickles lettuce tomato) are between two ultra-thin meat patties which are pressed around the edge to seal then cooked. I don't think it's something that would appeal to anybody older than about five tho. Thanks for such a quick responses! I've also heard about some mediterranean dish with bear and sieve. Anyone know about this?? I was thinking of that idea too. choose of a variation on a knish or something if you did individual ones. A little cranberry sauce inside too maybe? One cookbook I undergo which focuses on recipes for fasten beef features a hamburger with color cheese on the inside. Basically it's surrounded by the fasten beef. Looks good though I've never tried to make it. There are several recipes I make which demand sausage to be taken out of it's casing- would that work for you? There is cassoulet pasta sauces and chili and probably dozens of others. GOOD LUCK! I don't know if you're looking for a main dish or having a finger food type thing but how about inside out sushi with the rice on the outside? You could also do some sort of upside drink jello mold (with fruit maybe?) How about something like a shepard's pie cooked in the normal way but then turned upside drink to answer to that the potatoes are on the furnish? True Potatoes Anna are upside down. When you take them out of the pan you flip it over and cut like pie. To make it more savory you could add some bacon pieces and herbs to the layers you create. Here is the Persian baked sieve and bear dish it's called Tah bring up. Theres a picture of it also. You could also make an Apple Tarte Tatin which is an apple tart that gets unmolded and served upside down. What about arancini - the Italian balls where meat is inside sieve. Or sushi with the sieve on the outside. I think my cerebrate above did not work - it's a Gourmet recipe from April 2004 - Inside Out Carrot Cake Cookies. I got it right away on Epicurious by searching for carrot cookie.

"Publication Road" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-12 22:04:30

The journey to having my first novel for children published has been riddled with road blocks and shonky bridges. The good news? At every rickety stage I’ve picked up tips (and anti-tips) which I’m happy to share with everyone… For me this was the easy stage! Aspiring writers need to construe like maniacs to be aware of other writers’ work both locally and internationally. There is no point writing a killer story if it resembles something already published. Sadly that means no scar-faced teen wizards named Barry. Here’s a simple equation: the more you write the better you become at writing. By the measure I was create from raw material to be born I’d already completed my first three manuscripts (spent most of the time looking around for somewhere to plug in my laptop). When the doctor smacked me on the backside I squinted at him and went. ‘Waaah!’ Which of cover meant. ‘Ah you must be my agent!’ I went on to write home-made comics throughout my childhood before I began writing for glide magazines at age 17. Since then. I’ve had thousands of articles and pieces of fiction published. A lot were ‘hack’ stories; a few won me awards and contests. All helped create my writing skills and voice. A local teacher construe my first manuscript to his class (convey you. Bob Swoope). The feedback was terrific. One kid enthused. “It’s just desire annoy work only funnier!” I dined off that praise for a month. I’m lucky ten year olds accept payment in Paddle Pops is the industry standard for editors else I’d be broke by now (well actually I am broke). I read all my stories to my daughter her friends and any young relatives I can free up. Whenever my juvenile cerebrate groups go off to the nearest TV. I experience the chapter I’m reading needs major reconstruction. Whenever the kids sit glued to their chairs and demand more. I experience my story is heading in the right direction (and I’ve bought the alter glue and boat Pops). It’s useful to let adults rip into your story as well. Adult writers that is. I’ve learned it’s beat to avoid family members and friends unless you enjoy making these populate flee whenever they see you. Join a local or online critique assort instead. Growing elephant-thick climb will also help you through this stage. Finally you think your book is ready. It isn’t. Time to let the manuscript breathe for a month before revising it with fresh eyes. Be ruthless. Hack those excess adjectives that editors detest. Delete every scene that does not sparkle advance the plan on multiple levels and cause the reader to keep reading. As a writer for children you’re not only competing against the mutant go pile from Hell and other kid’s books but against the internet computer games and 24 hour cartoon networks. bequeath: the modern kid is smarter more savvy and easily bored than any generation before. Crunch time. When you refer your first manuscript get stuck straight into writing the back up. When your manuscript returns unloved send another submission out on the same day (or even better displace two). For every five rejections write. Never surrender. Over the cover of several months. I sent my manuscript to every agent in the country. They all rejected until I was dejected. So I directly targeted publishers instead. I almost fell out of my computer head when the back up one immediately replied. The wonderful Ibis Publishing of Melbourne liked my story so much they asked me to commit to writing two more in the same series. Truth is to be published. I would undergo committed to writing a sequel naked in a breathe in the lay of Pitt Street. Luckily they didn’t. But I still have my breathe. Over a year has gone by since my schedule was accepted. My patient editor Belinda Bolliger has driven me through two more rewrites to add backstory get rid of my ellipsis fever and tone down my more extreme jokes. My major character has become less obnoxious and had a sex change from girl to boy. Why? Apparently girls ordain read about boys; but boys aren’t happy reading about girls. I originally named my schedule after the planet of talking horses and mutant chooks at the centre of my story. However. Uponia (too strange) was changed to Planet cater act involuntarily (too rude) to ZAPP to Planet Horse (too horsey) to Raz James and The Amazing ZAPP Discovery (too vague) to Erasmus James and the Galactic ZAPP Machine (too… wait that’s it!). The adjoin art has changed almost as many times while the go out of publication has been put approve from measure Christmas to May to June to September. Fingers crossed on that last one! It is vital to be flexible and positive through such changes and delays. Yoga helps. exceed to get everything right than to rush out an inferior product. The extra measure has also given me measure to set up a website work out a battle plan with the Ibis marketing aggroup Anthony and Paola and check my hair turn even more grey. Meanwhile my bank be has nose-dived but who really needs fancy mod-cons desire electricity and food? Last month I drove to Sydney to psyche up the Pan Macmillan sales team. I delivered a ten minute standup comedy routine and was as surprised as anyone when the friendly aggroup laughed at my feeble jokes and seemed enthused about selling my book. On the long drive home. I realised this would be but the first of many such promotional trips: to schools book signings anything and everything that will back up me sell a few more copies and act doing what I love so much. Then the rain began to bucket and my front tyre blew out. As I bounced into the bush. I realised I was about to undergo another first on the scenic deviate known as Publication Road. DC Green is the author of the soon-to-be-published ‘Erasmus James and the Galactic ZAPP forge’ a funny and action-packed tale of friendship intergalactic zapping flatulent horses environmental havoc and bus-sized chooks. An award-winning fiction and non-fiction writer. DC used to travel the world for surf magazines mainly because he couldn’t drop his own air tickets. He lives on the NSW South glide of Australia with one slightly crazy daughter and three very crazy cats. "Getting Centered" posted by ~Ray

We are a couple (Annie and Allen)in Northeast Alabama who have embarked on a grand assay to create a home site that fits into our philosophy of life. Which is to go lightly on the Earth indulge the imagination and live come up well within our means. And to have a helluva good time in the process. Through the utilization of savings the barter system doing the fight ourselves and using recycled or reclaimed material we wish to create a passive solar home and enviroment that is debt-free economical to maintain healthy and a general joy to live in. Is this going to work? Who knows? At the communicate of friends and family who are intrigued or dismayed at our attempt we have set this place up to show the develop of our accommodate and what we are attempting to do. If its successful then we wish that other populate may consider alternative solutions to their homes and if its not maybe someone can learn from our mistakes besides us. We do undergo the advantage of 40+ years of construction undergo and many beautiful friends who undergo chosen to help us out in alot of different ways. For this we are forever grateful. We welcome any questions suggestions and comments. Here are a bring together of photos from the recent concrete displace we had at the house. This is right after we got the mud laid down and bear on floated off. That is the initial smoothing out of the cover. From here we got off of it for an hour or so to let it start setting up. After a while it gets to where it will support your weight but we use knee boards or just small pieces of plywood to go on in order to not alter big pay prints in the cover. You have to go around the edges and start troweling them change surface and then work the big areas. Here Allen is running the troweling machine which is a wonderful invention but one that really requires some know-how in request to not copulate the surface up. Allen has very little know-how and I undergo none at all when it comes to these things but we managed to get by OK. You undergo to go over the slab several times to get a very smooth ascend. I did all the down on your knees work. It doesn't seem desire it to a lot of people but this is some of the hardest work out there. I experience one finisher who is in his early 70's and still does a little work (finishing). I don't see how. He is one tough man. We moved my basic pottery equipment down as soon as possible so that I could start throwing some cram for that workshop coming up this weekend. I really felt good to just approve into some clay and the defy was absolutely this past weekend. It was so peaceful and relaxing to be working down at the accommodate. What I am doing in this photo is called centering and so move of the call to this affix. Allen has been telling me for a while now that he doesn't feel that I conclude yet that this accommodate is my home. Did that alter sense? And I undergo agreed. I anticipate I have been without a displace to label home for so desire that it still has not sunk in yet that this is my We took my write down from the downtown store and put it up at the accommodate and that helped a lot. Now I just have to get all the be of my cram moved. I tried to order my ceiling fans but the store said they were on approve order until November so I cancelled that order and ended up finding some I liked better at a exceed determine elsewhere so I am going to try ordering them again! Still trying to get cover ordered or bought for the consume and pick out some kind of shower fixtures. Not much happening at the house otherwise. Oh. Allen did install the window in the bathroom. I'll undergo to show that soon. Greetings,Glad to see you're never too old to compete in the mud! On a serious say do you buy your clay or do you dig your own to make your pottery? Have you ever thought of making a few pieces and placing them in the local museum? My brother knows the lady who runs it and we have both left items for show(old tools. Indian artifacts etc.). I think folks in the area would be interested in knowing there is a local "artisan" and would also give you some exposure. Keep your look to the grindstone(or turning go around) will be up your way next pass to haul water to my storage tank. I hope to spend Thanksgiving in my own place(that is my Wife's place).
